Srinagar, Feb 9: Complete
shutdown was observed
across Kashmir on Friday as
people remembered Muhammad
Afzal Guru, who was
sent to gallows secretly in
New Delhi’s Tihar Jail on
February 9, 2013.
The government
imposed strict curbs in
downtown here, without
making any announcement,
even as congregational
Friday prayers
were yet again barred at
the historic Jamia Masjid
Srinagar. Almost all the
pro-freedom leaders were
either placed under house
arrest or lodged in various
prisons across the Valley.

Srinagar, Feb 9: A memorandum
framed by Kashmir’s Joint
Resistance Leadership to seek
return of the mortal remains of
Muhammad Maqbool Bhat and
Muhammad Afzal Guru from
Tihar Jail was read and adopted
in masjids across Kashmir on
Friday.
The memorandum stated:
“This gathering demands the
return of the mortal remains of
foremost resistance leader of
Kashmir Muhammad Maqbool
Bhat and great warrior Muhammad
Afzal Guru who are buried
at Tihar Jail Delhi and stresses
upon international human
rights organizations to play

India has finally set the ball
rolling by inviting bids for
construction of a tunnel and
approaches to turn Mughal
Road into an all-weather road.

Centre asks JK
to deploy CRPF
in jails
New Delhi, Feb 9: Taking
serious note of the escape of
a jailed Pakistani militant,
the Centre today asked the
Jammu and Kashmir government
to fully review
security measures in place
in jails and transportation
of inmates.
The Union Home Ministry
also asked the state government
to ensure that no
such incident takes place
in future and deploy CRPF
in prison security.
"The home ministry
has taken serious note of
the issue and has advised
the state government to
fully review security
measures and take action
to prevent such incidents
