The Client’s Complaint
A popular manufacturer of women’s clothing contacted Caster Concepts with a rather unusual request. They utilized
conveyors to move pieces of clothing through huge a huge distribution center, and while their current setup was quite
efficient and worked well, they had one major issue – the sprockets that kept the belts moving smoothly were wearing
out quickly, resulting in a great deal of downtime and excessive costs. The company contacted Caster Concepts to find
an alternative that would last longer with less maintenance, thereby reducing downtime and keeping the facility

What Caster Concepts Found
The first thing we did was research the current sprockets in use by this company. Our engineers found that the materials
were far from durable, and the issue was so bad that the teeth simply broke right off the sprockets, grinding production
and movement to a halt. We knew we needed to come up with a better solution, so we worked with our partner
operation – Reaction Industries – which specializes in the manufacturing of polyurethane products for various industries.
The need for a solution was clear, and Reaction Industries set to work to design a sprocket that could stand up to the
daily grind.

The solution came in the form of a brand-new sprocket design that fit the existing conveyors but was made of material
that would last a long time in comparison to their previous sprockets. To get this material, the team tested and explored
different polymers until they came up with a combination that was perfect for the client’s needs. After implementing
and monitoring these new sprockets, it was discovered that breakage was virtually non-existent, and downtime simply
