Greetings!
In the upper part of the Zadrečka valley, there is a historically important
tourist center below Menina Planina, with
exceptional bioclimatic character and above average clean air. It is
located 50 km northeast (via Črnivec pass, 902 m) from Ljubljana, 50 km
northwest of Celje and 38 km west of Velenje.
The city of Gornji Grad surrounded by hills overgrown with rich forests,
make for a very attractive location for hikers. The most famous of them
are Lepenatka, Menina planina and Rogatec, that sport incredible views
of the nearby Kamnik– Savinja Alps.Visitors of the area can enjoy various
activities, nature
excursions, mountain biking and paragliding.
Gornji Grad is also a culturally and historically rich place. In the center
of the town proudly rises the cathedral of Gornji Grad, the largest
cathedral in Slovenia by It’s volume. The city is also the home of a well
known beekeeping family, which in
cooperation with the Tourist Association annually prepares a well-attended
beekeeping holiday with a beekeeping
procession and the choosing of the honey queen.
