About the composer<br />
<strong>Catherine</strong> <strong>Likhuta</strong> (b. 1981) is an Australian-based composer, pianist and recording artist. Her music<br />
exhibits high emotional charge, programmatic nature and rhythmic complexity. <strong>Catherine</strong>'s works have<br />
been played throughout the United States, Europe and Australia, as well as in Canada, Mexico and Brazil.<br />
Her music has enjoyed performances by prominent symphony orchestras (such as Melbourne Symphony<br />
Orchestra and Orchestra of the National Radio of Ukraine), chamber ensembles (such as Atlantic Brass<br />
Quintet, Western Brass Quintet and U.S. Army Field Band Horns) and soloists (such as Denise Tryon of<br />
Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and Adam Unsworth of University of Michigan). Her music has been<br />
featured at Carnegie Hall, four International Horn Symposiums, two World Saxophone Congresses and<br />
numerous festivals.<br />
<strong>Catherine</strong>’s wind band works have been performed by many leading ensembles, such as Queensland<br />
Conservatorium Wind Orchestra (Peter Morris, conductor), University of Georgia Hodgson Wind<br />
Ensemble (Cynthia Johnston Turner, conductor), University of Kentucky Wind Symphony (Kaitlin Bove,<br />
conductor), University of Connecticut Wind Ensemble (Vu Nguyen, conductor), and Sydney<br />
Conservatorium of Music Wind Symphony (John Lynch, conductor).<br />
<strong>Catherine</strong>’s recent residencies include University of Connecticut, University of Georgia and North<br />
Carolina NewMusic Initiative. She was the winner of the International Horn Society Composition Contest<br />
(virtuoso division) and the recipient of numerous awards, including two grants <strong>from</strong> the Australia Council<br />
for the Arts. Her music can be heard on Cala, Albany and Equilibrium Records.<br />
<strong>Catherine</strong> is an active performer, often playing her own music. She was the soloist on the premiere and<br />
the CD recording of Out Loud, her piano concerto commissioned by Cornell University Wind Ensemble,<br />
and the pianist on Adam Unsworth’s CD Snapshots. Together with her collaborators, she has given<br />
numerous recitals, including ones at the 18th World Saxophone Congress (Zagreb, Croatia),<br />
50th International Horn Symposium (Ball State University), Eastman School of Music, Northwestern<br />
University and University of Michigan.
