Hello!
If you would like to request a Homemade Microfiber Towel Mask, please contact me at
MaskMaker8765@gmail.com. You can find instructions for making the mask and additional information
about its design at www.yumpu.com/user/maskmaker8765.
About the Mask
Briefly, this mask contains one layer of breathable cotton and one layer of PureClean microfiber cloth
(towel). While PureClean cloths were designed for cleaning contaminants by wiping, not air filtering, its
packaging claims the cloths are effective in capturing pathogens: “Even when used with water alone,
PureClean cloths remove 99.9% of pathogens dead or alive, including Norovirus, Listeria, E. Coli, MRSA
and Solmonella.” The mask bulges slightly in the front in order to increase the surface area of the towel
filter and facilitate breathing. The nose bridge contains an aluminum strip for molding the mask to the
user’s face. Fitted properly, the mask achieves minimal leakage during breathing. Please note that facial
hair may impede a good seal.
Mask Use Recommendations
· You may wish to wash the mask before first use.
· Before putting on the mask, clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
· Cover your mouth and nose with the mask and adjust the metal strip such that there are no gaps
between your face and the mask.
· Avoid touching the mask while using it. If you do, clean your hands with alcohol-based hand rub or
soap and water.
· After use, remove the mask from behind (without touching the front of the mask).
· Place the used mask in the washing machine and wash hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap
and water.
· Machine wash the mask in hot water and let it air dry to avoid additional wear. It is fine to wash
the mask with other laundry items. In order to prevent repeated deformation of the metal strip
and tangling of the elastic, you may wish to place the mask in a protective structure, such as a
washing machine bra protector.
· If the mask is wrinkled after washing, you may gently iron the cotton side (not the towel side) with
a warm (not hot) iron.
Disclaimer
This mask has not been tested for effectiveness in blocking viruses, including the COVID-19 virus, and
other contaminants. Therefore, its effectiveness cannot be quantified or guaranteed.
Questions & Feedback
You can reach me at maskmaker8765@gmail.com. All feedback is appreciated. This mask is a work in
progress and feedback is vital to improving the design. Because the mask is handmade, please excuse
stitching imperfections.
Contributions
I aim to make as many masks as I can for people who want and need them. I have also publicly posted
instructions for making the mask (www.yumpu.com/user/maskmaker8765) and will continue to update
those instructions as I make design improvements. Payment is not required, but a contribution ($20 per
mask plus $10 shipping suggested) is greatly appreciated to cover materials, ongoing mask
development, and free mask distribution to healthcare workers and people financially strained at this
time. You may contribute at Paypal.me/MaskMaker8765.
Thank you and please stay safe,
