Cotton College, did his graduation from Presidency College, Kolkata and
then moved to Delhi University to pursue his post-graduation in English
literature. After completion of his master's degree, for sometime, he
became a lecturer in Kirori Mal College of Delhi University. Later, he
went to the Cambridge University for doctoral research on the topic
‘Paradise Lost and the 17 th Century Crisis'. After coming back from
Cambridge, he became a professor at the Department of English in
Gauhati University.

Jyoti Prasad Agarwala
Jyoti Prasad Agarwala (17 June 1903 – 17 January 1951) was a noted
Indian playwright, songwriter, poet, writer and film maker from Assam.
He was considered as Assamese cultural icon, deeply revered for his
creative vision and output and is popularly called the Rupkonwar of
Assamese culture. In fact, he is regarded as the founder of Assamese
cinema for Joymoti (1935). His death anniversary (17 January) is
observed as Silpi divas (Artist's Day) in his honor.

Komal Kothari was born on 4 th March, 1929. He was an Indian folk artist
and classical singer. His research resulted in his development of the
study of a number of areas of folklore. In particular, he made
contributions to the study of musical instruments, oral traditions and
puppetry. He founded the Rupayan Sansthan with Vijaydan Detha at
Borunda village in Rajasthan, an Institute that documents Rajasthani
folklore, arts and music, and spent most of his career at the Rajasthan
Sangeet Natak Academy. He died from cancer in April, 2004.

is an Indian classical musician who plays the string instrument sarod.
Narayan was born in the Indian state Rajasthan and began to study

teachers. He won the All India Radio instrumentalist competition in
1967 and accompanied his father on a tour to Afghanistan in 1969.
Narayan graduated from the University of Mumbai in 1972 and has

Presidency, British India. He was an Indian cultural figure from Assam, known
for his contributions in the fields of music, dance, painting, literature as well
as political activism. As an advocate of people's cultural movement, he drew
heavily from different genres of classical and folk cultural
traditions.Considered a doyen of the Culture of Assam, the Assamese people
affectionately call him Kalaguru (meaning: "the master of the arts"). He is
also called by Marxists as Sainik Silpi (sainik "soldier", silpi "artist")for his
active participation in the armed struggle, led by the Revolutionary
Communist Party of India (RCPI). He died on 20 June 1969 tezpur, Assam.
