Kyusho-Jitsu

A
(cycle "Feu-Métal-Bois-Terre-Eau).
2) Le "cycle diurne":
Le flux d'énergie est plus important
dans certaines parties du corps selon le
moment de la journée.
3) Et il y en a bien d'autres...
Conclusions:
1) Dans une situation de stress,
nous avons peu de temps pour
penser. Ces concepts ne sont pas
utiles. Ils sont alors au mieux confus
et impraticables, voire dangereux.
2) Dans une situation de stress, il se
produit plusieurs changements physiologiques:
flux d'adrénaline ou de noradrénaline,
stimulation neurologique, musculaire,
respiratoire, circulatoire.
HARAGEI RYU - Francis DE HEBLES

THE UNIQUE BENEFITS OF QIGONG
Over the last few decades the practice
of Qigong (pronounced chee-gung)
has spread from China to the West
and has become increasingly popular. In
a similar way to the migration of the
different systems of yoga from India,
the majority of qigong practices are
modernizations of very old health
and spiritual traditions.
Unlike yoga, there are literally
thousands of styles of qigong.
This is in part due to a huge qigong
boom that occurred within
China during the late 1970’s and
80’s, known as ‘qigong fever’. Qigong
at this time was the first
activity that gave the Chinese
people any semblance of freedom
after the trauma of the
‘Cultural Revolution’. In many
ways it acted as a catharsis for the
national psyche. This gives us an
idea of the nature of qigong- above
all it is most esteemed for its ability
to heal.
BY SIFU KELLY WHELAN-ENNS
Qigong promotes a feeling of being at home in the
body, of being safe in one’s body. When qigong
skill develops, a good practice session will
create a feeling of radiant contentment, of being utterly
at ease within body and mind. On one level,
by regulating the breath and anchoring awareness
within the body, qigong calms the mind and settles
the nerves. On another level, through specific
movements, stretches, and self-massage, qigong
is beneficial on nearly every physiological system
of the body, from the lymphatic to the
hormonal to cardiovascular. This is why it
is thought of as a preventative medicine. A
well-known characteristic of qigong practitioners
is that they retain physical suppleness,
health and mental clarity well into old
age.
Although historically in China it has
always been known that qigong
exercises have multiple benefits
for health and wellbeing, only more recently
have studies been carried out to ascertain
specific effects. The research so far is very
positive, showing consistent results that qigong
is beneficial for cardiopulmonary, immune
and inflammatory, brain and neurological,
bone health, and psychological health.*
Not only can qigong be practiced as preventative
healthcare, but it is also well known to
assist the body in healing and recovering from
disease. This applies to anything from quickening
recovery from colds or physical injuries and
strains, to assisting the body in healing chronic or
more debilitating issues such as heart disease, depression,
or cancer.
THE UNIQUE BENEFITS OF QIGONG
As a simple practice of 10-20 minutes a day, qigong can have a huge impact on physical health, on improving posture, breath,
digestion, and sleep. If one chooses to go deeper into a specific system of qigong, it can have a profound effect on every
aspect of one’s being. It can strengthen one’s resolve in the face of uncertainty, it can transform negative thinking patterns,
self-loathing, fear, anger, and grief.
It can strengthen our capacity for love and kindness. In short, it can become
a spiritual discipline, but is not bound by any religious conviction.
It doesn’t matter if Christian, Muslim or avoute atheist sceptic-
qigong is adaptable to any lifestyle or belief system. This
is because it is in the most general terms, simply a way of
building coherence between the mind, body, and breath.
If you are curious about trying qigong it is worth exploring
a few different styles and finding the most
appropriate teacher for your needs. Finding the
right qigong for you will be explored in a follow-up
article to this one.

BUNKAI KARATE - PART 3 - END OF THE STORY
There are numerous levels on which Kata may be studied. At the beginner
level the kata is studied as a series of Kihon techniques practiced in strict
sequence. Emphasis is put on form: eye line, posture, breathing, kime,
and movement. Once the student has mastered the outside form, the simple
applications are explored.
At this level the "label" movements are considered as the application:
a block is just a block, a punch is just a punch. The famous Karateka
Kanazawa shares this opinion, having stated that "kyu grades should be
taught simple bunkai to develop a feeling for the Kata. If they just practice
the cold movements from the Kata, then the feeling will not be right".
The second level of bunkai study should see the discarding of "labels"
and the consideration of alternative uses of the techniques. The student
will have to look at the transitions, making sure to account for every
movement, not just the finished posture. Once the student reaches an advanced
level the Kata itself may be considered little more than a general
guideline from which a overall strategy may be inferred.
Hidden or alternative techniques (henka techniques) that have only
a distant, suggested relationship to the Kata may be inserted to the
bunkai. This use of "henka" should only be used once the student has a firm
understanding of the Kata and should never be used to explain any sequence
for which there is no clear meaning. The technique are truely of use. Students
should not wait to be shown everything by their instructor.
KYOSHI FRANK WEBER - 8th DAN KARATE -DO
When getting down to the real business of bunkai, the student needs
to look at two methods of analysis. The first method consists of "posture
analysis", where each separate posture is analyzed in isolation and
possible applications assigned to it. The sequential postures of each
Kata then may be combined or recombined to give a nearly infinite
number of possible applications.
The posture analysis technique results in short series of linked
movements from the Kata dealing with only one attacker.
The second method consists of "sequence analysis". Sequence
analysis attempts to reduce the number of attackers to
an absolute minimum, preferring to see large segments of the
Kata as a flowing, logical response to one attacker. Truthfully,
neither system may be used to the exclusion of the other: the
Karate posture limits the possible applications, the sequence
suggests a logical flow.
In both methods of kata analysis the student must keep in mind
that the majority of these kata originated from a time before
there was a distinct divergence of martial arts styles: there was
no karate, judo, ju-jitsu, aikido or kobudo styles. The student
was expected to study art of fighting in general and be proficient
in striking, grappling, or weapons. The kata reflect this reality
completely: the student should not be fixed on "punch and kick"
or "grab and throw"; there are both in all the kata.
Most historical texts on karate clearly state that karate was originally
meant as a self-defense art against common ruffians rather
than trained martial artists. This being the case, the nature of the attack is
likely to be a blitz style attack where the opponent attempts to overwhelm the
victim's defenses by a direct onslaught and no attempt to spar or play at fighting.
BUNKAI KARATE - PART 3 - END OF THE STORY
In truth, there are a limited number of attacks the average thug will use
and this limits the number of defenses that the martial artist really
has to use. If we accept the theory that Kata applications are
meant as defense against these HAOV, then we can then develop
some rules for sequential analysis of Kata.
1. Empty your cup of all previous beliefs and see the
possible variables. Do not fall into the trap of "label disease".
A block may be a lock may be a blow may be a
throw.
2. Movements should take you off the primary
attack angle and into an area that makes both the
primary attack ineffectual and the secondary attack
unlikely.
3. Reconsider the typical karate Kumite distance.
Kata oyo are more typically at short or medium
range rather than long range.
4. Sequential movements typically begin
with an intercepting block and end with a final
take down. Look for Kata sequences of three or
four movements that would inflict progressively
more damage to the opponent. Often the primary
block actually is the chamber position of the "labeled
technique" while the labeled posture is an attack.
5. Again, do not forget that both hands are in use
here and there are no preparatory or useless movements.
Most second "yoi" positions that appear in the higher Kata
(Bassai Dai, Kanku Dai) have some meaning. Also remember
the "sticky hands" theory: once you make you entry, contact is
maintained with the opponent until he is finished and down. Look
for these final "down" movements.
6. Stepping forward into a block or dropping the stance implies a control
technique.
7. Be willing to step outside of Karate to other martial arts to find meaning to Kata. Examples where joint locks and throws may
be found in many of our Kata. The first downward block in Heian Shodan may be considered a variation of ude osae or ikkyo form
in Aikido, while the second down block in Heian Shodan may be considered a variation of shiho nage.
8. Crossing of the feet, either in kosa dachi or just stepping across may suggest a turn in place rather than simple linear movement.
9. Almost all jumps represent throws of the opponent.
10. Never consider one movement in isolation: look at the movement prior to and just after each technique and see if they flow
together or stand apart. Do not forget that there may be techniques that are implied but not actually performed. Sometimes the
"finishing blow" will only appear once in a particular sequence but is implied elsewhere where similar techniques are performed.
KYOSHI FRANK WEBER - 8th DAN KARATE -DO
Having explored all the elements that go into discovering the potential oyo
found in our Kata, we should now consider how we can train these
skills and possibly benefit all aspects of our karate. Historically, the
basis for karate kumite was pre-arranged kumite where both attacks and
defenses were mutually understood. We should suggest that it would
be worthwhile to return to this form of sparring, starting at the beginner
levels.
Beginners would apply only the most simple definition of the
kata techniques, but against realistic street style attacks. At
the entry level of this study, no variation from the Kata would
be considered. Personally I found that for the most part very effective,
realistic defenses can be found within the Kata without
any alteration of the traditional techniques other than slight
changes of embusen.
Once the students developed a clear understanding of the
unaltered traditional Kata forms minor variations could
be explored. Advanced Karateka would be expected to create
bunkai oyo independently, both with henka techniques and without
any alteration. With full understanding of the applications
of the Kata, the students would not only be able to form correct intent
while training, most would see the true benefits of intense Kata
training. Kata would once again resume its place at the core and heart
of traditional Karate.

DIALOGUER RÉDUIT LE RISQUE

et d’observer l’assaillant et

pour se protéger et se défendre si

FIXER L’AGRESSEUR
LE DÉSTABILISE
FAUX

vancer.
VRAI
«Se défendre efficacement
avec les poings
exige du savoir-faire et peut se révéler
douloureux. A l’inverse, frapper
quel gabarit. Cibler une zone sensible
sans ménagement est généralement
salvateur.»
BIEN SE DÉFENDRE
DÉPEND DE SA CONDITION
PHYSIQUE
FAUX
«Survivre à une agression
n’est pas réservé aux costauds.
En revanche, lors des faits, il
faut trouver une solution en moins
de dix secondes. Au-delà, c’est physiquement
plus exigeant. Le but est
Il
est préférable d’éviter un séjour aux
urgences et de déposer une plainte.
Si vous vous souvenez du visage de
votre agresseur, c’est encore mieux.»
POSSÉDER DES ARMES
D’AUTODÉFENSE EST UN PLUS
«En France, il faut prouver
FAUX
la légitime défense. Or le
fait de posséder ce type d’accessoire
peut aisément transformer une victime
en agresseur, avec des poursuites
à la clé. De plus, il n’est pas exclu
que l’agresseur s’en empare.
Mieux vaut se servir des objets à
portée de main, des “armes fortuites”
comme une paire de clés,
une chaise, la tranche d’un magazine,
des chaussures, ou encore une
mallette. Un stylo adroitement manié,
mine sortie ou non selon les
dommages que l’on souhaite causer,
est aussi dévastateur qu’une
arme blanche.» c

THIRD SEMINAR SELF PRO KRAV IN GERMANY
Jacques Levinet teaches self-defense for everyone
With Jacques Levinet, Gery Jacoby, and Frank Weber, three master's specialist self-defense
have been presented to everyone.
What to do if I am attacked? How martial arts inexperants learn effectively how to self-defense, showed
three experts in a two-day course. At the third self-defense / assertion seminar organized by the community
of interests for applied martial arts in cooperation with the karate section of the PSV Bielefeld,
the participants have learned how to instinctively react without rethinking to a threat.
When Jacques Levinet is threatened with a knife in Bielefeld, 20 participants await his reaction. A few targeted
handgrips and the necessary body tension are sufficient to ward off the attacker. The exercise with the knife is part
of the self-defense program 'Self Pro Krav' (SPK) developed by Jacques Levinet, which Frank Weber exclusively offers
in Bielefeld.
INSTINCTIVELY RESPOND
Frank Weber, Jacques Levinet et Gery Jacoby
We would like to thank Jacques and Gery
for the inspiring training, with addiction to more.
Osu - Frank Weber and his team
With the system we present here, we have a unique feature, explains the 52-year-old.
In addition to his work as a trainer in the PSV, he also runs his own IGAKK. There is no other club in Germany that can offer that.
MOST WEAPONS IN THE GAME
Since each 'aggressor' as Weber calls the attacker, acts differently, one must react in a few seconds. There are people who prefer the
fist fight - but usually a weapon is in the game.
With the appropriate technique I can also stand in this situation. The attacker would usually only threaten me and not hurt me. To
avoid this threat, Jacques Levinet has developed a simple system. Frank Weber, an application engineer, has been fighting for more
than 40 years - alongside Karate, Aikido and Judo, SPK. With the Police Association he is a pure coach. Under his direction regularly
train, in a mixed group well 15 active between 14 and 70 Karate, Aikido and the SPK presented at this weekend seminar. A few years
ago, Frank Weber had known and appreciated the self-defense system of Frenchman Jacques Levinet.
To find out more, he set out for Montpellier, some 1200 kilometers away. This journey has not only greatly expanded its martial
arts horizon. The two karate fighters have understood each other well and are friends.
The now retired Levinet, a former police officer, has been able to inspire and trained special units and security forces for his SPK
around the world. This system suits children, women and even elderly people.
We also offer the SPK in our dojo every four weeks, explains Frank Weber. It is remarkable that the SPK system does not require
prior knowledge in a martial art. For this, the participants learn in a short period of time instinctively to use their reflexes.
Because in an attack you have to fight effectively and without reflection, not only Jacques Levinet is just as confident as Bielefeld's
Karatemeister Frank Weber.
TONFA OPERATIVO
se tu, stimato lettore, sei interessato all'autodifesa professionale.
contro i samurai dell'epoca.
Esistono tanti nomi diversi
quante forme di tonfa.
A
FUNDATORE - CAPITANO JACQUES LEVINET
AJL (Academia Jacques Levinet).
Detto in
La formazione TO è
contro qualunque attacco ascendente o discendente.
FUNDATORE - CAPITANO JACQUES LEVINET
Pedagogia Professionale
paesi europei, c'è pertanto meno tecnicità di TO.
