It's not just for popping and cushioning packages.

Consider the glorious versatility of bubble wrap.

Your car seat may be comfortable for short trips, but

what about long ones? Make it dreamy by covering the

seat and the back in a double layer of bubble wrap (with

the bubbles facing out). The bubble wrap will support

your body and provide a comfy ride over the long haul.

Johann de Jager

"Poedingbakkies" was sy naam.

laat besef; hy's 'n man van daai geweste.

vinnig laat verstaan.

Dis hier waar Poedingbakkies weer inkom. Vir 'n standerd 8 laaitjie was geskiedenis

In 'n oomblik van "this is so not Poedingbakkies..." plak hy daardie papperasie op sy liniaal

Hy ruk soos hy skrik. 'n Doodse stilte word soos 'n

kombers oor die klas getrek. Poedingbakkies is egter weg…

Weer voorraad opname doen. Weer

kyk waarheen jou lewe oppad is? Moenie jou lewe verder mors nie. Dis nie die moeite werd nie.

OUTFIT TRICKS TO LOOK INSTANTLY YOUNGER

Marissa Laliberte

TRY A SLIGHT CROP

Even if you’re too self-conscious to show

your whole calf, don’t hide your ankles. “As

we age, we’re so consumed with how

many parts of our body we feel like we

have to cover up, but a few don’t need to

be covered,” Rothman says. “Elongating

the leg a bit with that cropped pant is very

flattering and sexy, and it’s a part of your

body that doesn’t tend to show age.” Plus,

the shorter hemline gives you the chance

to show off gorgeous shoes, whether you

like booties, flats, or pointed-toe loafers,

she says.

BESTANDDELE:

• 1 kg mieliemeel

• Sout na smaak

• 1 blikkie sweetcorn mielies

• 500 ml room

• 500 gr gerasperde chedder kaas (verdeel in 2)

• 300 gr rooi en geel peppers (gesnipper)

• 1 Pakkie vars sampioene (gekap)

• 2 uie (gekap)

• 1 pakkie Knorr Sausage gravy poeier

• 250 g gesnipperde bacon

en uie smoor by

speserye na smaak by.

• Bak paptert in oond vir 20 minute by 180 C° (jy wil basies net alles weer stadig warm

WHY YOU SHOULDN’T START A SENTENCE WITH

THIS PHRASE

Catherine Holecko

“THIS MAY SOUND STUPID …”

Don't undermine your message, or your relationships,

with this instant conversation-killer.

Also avoid: “This may be a silly question” and “I

may be wrong here, but…”

There’s no “may” about it: Once you’ve introduced

a negative quality, like “stupid” or

“wrong,” you can’t take it back. Your listeners

are already assuming that yes, you’re not too

bright. You also sound like you’re lacking confidence,

especially if you use a phrase like this in

a work setting. “Everyone else in the meeting

will be trying to stop themselves from rolling

their eyes,” says Comeau. Go ahead and ask

your question or make your statement without

an intro that undercuts you and what you’re

about to say.

Lindsay D. Mattison

What's up with all those water droplets on the lid of your leftovers? If you see them when you

take a container out of the fridge, here's what you need to know.

As a former restaurant chef, I find it impossible to cook for one. I’m programmed to prepare

enough food for a crowd! Even when I do my best, I end up with two to four extra servings.

Luckily, my family loves leftovers, and cooking this way is an easy way to meal prep! The only

speed bump I run into is those little water droplets that collect on the lids of our food storage

containers. What’s the deal with those; are the contents still safe to eat?

What causes condensation in food containers?

Those water droplets on the lid of your food container are actually just evidence of water vapor

trapped inside the container. When you put leftovers into the fridge, everything cools down

from the outside in. That process starts with the storage container itself, and because it gets

cold first, it’s an easy target for the steam that’s released from the cooling food. That vapor

wants to cling to the coldest surface around, so what you’re seeing is just science in action!

How do you prevent condensation from forming?

You can’t change the cooling process, but you can prevent the water vapor from condensing

on the lid. We always recommend covering leftovers to protect them from airborne organisms,

but they don’t need to be covered while they’re cooling. In fact, it’s actually safer to keep hot

food uncovered in the refrigerator to help the contents come down to safe temperatures as

quickly as possible. After an hour or so, go ahead and cover the food like normal. If you’re worried

you’ll forget to put the lid on until it’s too late, consider buying a set of vented food storage

containers. You can put the lid on, but leave the lid’s vent open while the food cools. Then,

close it up when you’re back in the kitchen.

Bottom Line: Is the Food Inside Safe to Eat?

At the end of the day, that lid condensation might look unseemly, but it doesn’t make the food

any less safe to eat. It’s possible that excess water could make your food a bit soggier than it

was the day before, but that’s it.

ANIMALS WHO ARE PROBABLY SMARTER THAN YOU

Brandon Specktor

RATS SOLVE PUZZLES

You might not think of rats as the smartest

animals, since humans are continually

using them for experiments. But did

you consider that the reason we use

them is because they’re smart, and can

handle the puzzles we throw at them?

They can memorize routes (hence, the

mazes), even though their eyesight is far,

far less acute than ours is. And their

problem-solving skills are on par with

those of dogs, despite their brains being

much smaller. Equally impressive, a Harvard

Business Review study found that

“even though the rat brain is smaller and

less complex than the human brain, research

has shown that the two are remarkably

similar in structure and function.”

FOLLOW THE LIGHT...

A guy walks into a dentist’s office

and says, “I think I’m a moth.”

The dentist replies “You shouldn’t

be here. You should be seeing a

The guys replies, “I am seeing a

The dentist says, “Well then what

are you doing here?”

And the guy says, “Your light was

on.”

By Connie Suggitt

Harnaam Kaur (UK) first appeared in Guinness World Records 2017 as the record holder for the youngest female with a full

beard. She was aged 24 years 282 days when her record was confirmed on 7 September 2015. She's gone on to become,

among other things, a freelance model and motivational speaker, spreading her message of body positivity and acceptance.

We recently caught up with Harnaam, now aged 30, to discuss what life is like for her day to day - and to get the

scoop on how she does her amazing eyeliner!

As you would expect, Harnaam often gets asked frustrating or insensitive questions about her facial hair. When asked what

she's sick of hearing, Harnaam replied: "It would absolutely have to be 'why do you have the beard?' Sometimes I wanna be

sarcastic and be like 'well, why does your dad have a beard?'" "I wish people asked me more questions about personal development,

you know, 'how do I add value? You found your purpose, how can I find my purpose?'" Harnaam often tackles

animosity or ignorance head-on in order to educate more people about her condition. "That fear you have of me, there’s a

question behind it that hasn't been answered and that's why you fear me or you're intimidated or you're mocking me." "So

many people struggle with the medical condition that I have. Women having facial hair is not unknown."

Harnaam was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) when she was 12 years old, a condition that millions of

people around the world have. "So many women have facial hair and they are so disregarded because it's not 'the norm to

have'. We get mocked for something that is so natural to our body." Gender stereotypes play a big part in how she and other

women with facial hair are treated, Harnaam believes. "It's so funny that it's ok when it's on a guy, but when it's on a women

it's mocked. Why do I need to keep explaining my body? Women's bodies are so policed." "I understand it's a shock when

people first see me, but there's a lot more to people than just their physical appearance. I always use this analogy - just as

this Earth grows flowers, our body grows hair." "Physical appearance will wither away... my beard will go but my message will

still stay."

Despite her strong message and no-nonsense attitude, it's taken Harnaam a long time to get to where she is today - and as

she told us, self-love and acceptance is a continuous journey. "I used to wear tracksuits or my brother's clothes so I hid the

fact I was a women, and to be honest I still sometimes do that because I don't need to deal with people and the c**p that they

give me." "People look at me and they go 'Oh she's there now.' No. God no. I've got real issues that I'm still dealing with. "A

lot of things still trigger me to wanting to go back to that young girl that I was, where I did harm myself and things like that.

Back then what I needed was someone to listen to me. "It [the beard] does stop me from just doing regular things. Sometimes

I can struggle with depression or anxiety and that does stop me from venturing out into the world."

However, a big turning point for Harnaam was when she travelled to New York City, USA. She appeared at WorldPride

NYC and spoke in front of thousands of people. "To look like this and to have thousands of people cheering... that was huge

for me. I was like 'I can spread my message here now'". Harnaam's message of self-love, at its core, is letting people know

that whatever they are going through, they are not alone. "You're not alone. You're struggling with bullying, you're struggling

with self-esteem, lack of confidence whatever it is." She inspires people to embrace their beauty, whatever form it may come

in. For Harnaam, one of the positives to having her beard is that it means she only has accepting people in her life. "My

beard allows me to have good people around me only, because I know that the people around me are very open minded,

non-judgmental and loving." Harnaam is, rightly, very proud of what she has achieved as a motivation speaker. "There’s so

much more that I want to do, but I’m just so happy right now... The young girl that we were speaking about, she’s happy.

She’s like 'wow, big sis!'"

Among her other achievements, Harnaam has been on the cover of both Cosmopolitan and Glamour. "Imagine opening a

magazine, not seeing yourself in there and ten years later you’re on the front cover." A lot has changed in the six years since

Harnaam was awarded her record title, including numerous speaker slots, profiles and, of course, appearing in multiple editions

of the Guinness World Records annual. "Guinness World Records… it’s such a powerful platform. You just open the

book itself and you see all these different people with all these different achievements, all these different looks – how can you

not accept the world to be diverse? Just look at it."
