암논을 살해하고 그술에 도망하여 있던 압살롬(13:20~39)이 이제 다시 예
루살렘에 돌아오기까지의 과정을 보여주고 있다. 먼저 압살롬을 구하기 위
한 슬기로운 여인의 비유(1~17절)와 압살롬의 귀환을 요압에게 허락하는
다윗과 압살롬의 신상과 압살롬과 다윗의 대면(25~33절) 등으로 기록하
고 있다. (삼하 14장)
After Absalom killed Amnon and fled to Geshur (2Sa 13:20~39), he now
returns to Jerusalem: The wise woman gives a parable to save Absalom
(v.1~17), David allows Absalom to return, Absalom’s circumstances, and

들어가서 그에게 이러이러하게 말하라고
요압이 그의 입에 할 말을 넣어 주니라
4 드고아 여인이 왕께 아뢸 때에 얼굴을 땅

1 Now Joab the son of Zeruiah
knew that the king's heart went
out to Absalom. 2 And Joab sent to Tekoa
and brought from there a wise woman
and said to her, “Pretend to be a mourner
and put on mourning garments. Do not
anoint yourself with oil, but behave like a
woman who has been mourning many
days for the dead. 3 Go to the king and
speak thus to him.” So Joab put the words
in her mouth.
4 When the woman of Tekoa came to the
king, she fell on her face to the ground

하니 5 왕이 그에게 이르되 무슨 일이냐 하
니라 대답하되 나는 진정으로 과부니이
다 남편은 죽고 6 이 여종에게 아들 둘이
있더니 그들이 들에서 싸우나 그들을 말
리는 사람이 아무도 없으므로 한 아이가
다른 아이를 쳐죽인지라
7 온 족속이 일어나서 당신의 여종 나를 핍
박하여 말하기를 그의 동생을 쳐죽인 자
를 내놓으라 우리가 그의 동생 죽인 죄를
갚아 그를 죽여 상속자 될 것까지 끊겠노

이 여인에게 이르되 네 집으로 가라 내가

9 드고아 여인이 왕께 아뢰되 내 주 왕이여
그 죄는 나와 내 아버지의 집으로 돌릴 것
이니 왕과 왕위는 허물이 없으리이다 10 왕
이 이르되 누구든지 네게 말하는 자를 내
게로 데려오라 그가 다시는 너를 건드리지
도 못하리라 하니라 11 여인이 이르되 청하
건대 왕은 왕의 하나님 여호와를 기억하
사 원수 갚는 자가 더 죽이지 못하게 하옵
소서 내 아들을 죽일까 두렵나이다 하니
왕이 이르되 여호와께서 살아 계심을 두
고 맹세하노니 네 아들의 머리카락 하나
도 땅에 떨어지지 아니하리라 하니라
12 여인이 이르되 청하건대 당신의 여종을
용납하여 한 말씀을 내 주 왕께 여쭙게 하
옵소서 하니 그가 이르되 말하라 하니라
13 여인이 이르되 그러면 어찌하여 왕께서
and paid homage and said, “Save me, O
king.” 5 And the king said to her, “What is
your trouble?” She answered, “Alas, I am
a widow; my husband is dead. 6 And your
servant had two sons, and they quarreled
with one another in the field. There was no
one to separate them, and one struck the
other and killed him.
7 And now the whole clan has risen against
your servant, and they say, ‘Give up the
man who struck his brother, that we may
put him to death for the life of his brother
whom he killed.’ And so they would
destroy the heir also. Thus they would
quench my coal that is left and leave to my
husband neither name nor remnant on
the face of the earth.” 8 Then the king said
to the woman, “Go to your house, and I will
give orders concerning you.”
9 And the woman of Tekoa said to the king,
“On me be the guilt, my lord the king, and
on my father's house; let the king and his
throne be guiltless.” 10 The king said, “If
anyone says anything to you, bring him to
me, and he shall never touch you again.”
11 Then she said, “Please let the king invoke
the Lord your God, that the avenger of
blood kill no more, and my son be not
destroyed.” He said, “As the Lord lives,
not one hair of your son shall fall to the
ground.”
12 Then the woman said, “Please let your
servant speak a word to my lord the king.”
He said, “Speak.” 13 And the woman said,
“Why then have you planned such a thing

하나님의 백성에게 대하여 이같은 생각을
하셨나이까 이 말씀을 하심으로 왕께서
죄 있는 사람 같이 되심은 그 내쫓긴 자를
왕께서 집으로 돌아오게 하지 아니하심이
니이다
against the people of God? For in giving
this decision the king convicts himself,
inasmuch as the king does not bring his
banished one home again.
14 우리는 필경 죽으리니 땅에 쏟아진 물을
다시 담지 못함 같을 것이오나 하나님은
생명을 빼앗지 아니하시고 ✽ 방책을 베푸
사 내쫓긴 자가 하나님께 버린 자가 되지
아니하게 하시나이다 15 이제 내가 와서 내
주 왕께 이 말씀을 여쭙는 것은 백성들이
나를 두렵게 하므로 당신의 여종이 스스
로 말하기를 내가 왕께 여쭈오면 혹시 종
이 청하는 것을 왕께서 시행하실 것이라
16 왕께서 들으시고 나와 내 아들을 함께
하나님의 기업에서 끊을 자의 손으로부터
주의 종을 구원하시리라 함이니이다 17 당
신의 여종이 또 스스로 말하기를 내 주 왕
의 말씀이 나의 위로가 되기를 원한다 하
였사오니 이는 내 주 왕께서 하나님의 사
자 같이 선과 악을 분간하심이니이다 원
하건대 왕의 하나님 여호와께서 왕과 같
이 계시옵소서 18 왕이 그 여인에게 대답
하여 이르되 바라노니 내가 네게 묻는 것
을 내게 숨기지 말라 여인이 이르되 내 주
왕은 말씀하옵소서
14 We must all die; we are like water spilled
on the ground, which cannot be gathered
up again. But God will not take away
life, and he ✽ devises means so that the
banished one will not remain an outcast.
15 Now I have come to say this to my lord
the king because the people have made
me afraid, and your servant thought, ‘I will
speak to the king; it may be that the king
will perform the request of his servant.
16 For the king will hear and deliver his
servant from the hand of the man who
would destroy me and my son together
from the heritage of God.’ 17 And your
servant thought, ‘The word of my lord
the king will set me at rest,’ for my lord the
king is like the angel of God to discern good
and evil. The Lord your God be with you!”
18 Then the king answered the woman,
“Do not hide from me anything I ask you.”
And the woman said, “Let my lord the king
speak.”

19 왕이 이르되 이 모든 일에 요압이 너와
함께 하였느냐 하니 여인이 대답하여 이
르되 내 주 왕의 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하
옵나니 내 주 왕의 말씀을 좌로나 우로나
옮길 자가 없으리이다 왕의 종 요압이 내
게 명령하였고 그가 이 모든 말을 왕의 여
종의 입에 넣어 주었사오니 20 이는 왕의
종 요압이 이 일의 형편을 바꾸려 하여 이
렇게 함이니이다 내 주 왕의 지혜는 하나
님의 사자의 지혜와 같아서 땅에 있는 일
을 다 아시나이다 하니라
21 왕이 요압에게 이르되 내가 이 일을 허
락하였으니 가서 청년 압살롬을 데려오라
하니라 22 요압이 땅에 엎드려 절하고 왕을
위하여 복을 빌고 요압이 이르되 내 주 왕
이여 종의 구함을 왕이 허락하시니 종이
왕 앞에서 은혜 입은 줄을 오늘 아나이다
하고
23 요압이 일어나 그술로 가서 압살롬을 데
리고 예루살렘으로 오니 24 왕이 이르되
그를 그의 집으로 물러가게 하여 내 얼굴
을 볼 수 없게 하라 하매 압살롬이 자기 집
으로 돌아가고 왕의 얼굴을 보지 못하니라
다윗이 압살롬과 화해하다
25 온 이스라엘 가운데에서 압살롬 같이
아름다움으로 크게 칭찬 받는 자가 없었
으니 그는 발바닥부터 정수리까지 흠이
없음이라 26 그의 머리털이 무거우므로 연
말마다 깎았으며 그의 머리 털을 깎을 때
에 그것을 달아본즉 그의 머리털이 왕의
19 The king said, “Is the hand of Joab with
you in all this?” The woman answered
and said, “As surely as you live, my lord the
king, one cannot turn to the right hand or
to the left from anything that my lord the
king has said. It was your servant Joab who
commanded me; it was he who put all
these words in the mouth of your servant.
20 In order to change the course of things
your servant Joab did this. But my lord
has wisdom like the wisdom of the angel
of God to know all things that are on the
earth.”
21 Then the king said to Joab, “Behold now,
I grant this; go, bring back the young man
Absalom.” 22 And Joab fell on his face to the
ground and paid homage and blessed the
king. And Joab said, “Today your servant
knows that I have found favor in your
sight, my lord the king, in that the king has
granted the request of his servant.”
23 So Joab arose and went to Geshur and
brought Absalom to Jerusalem. 24 And
the king said, “Let him dwell apart in his
own house; he is not to come into my
presence.” So Absalom lived apart in his
own house and did not come into the
king's presence.
25 Now in all Israel there was no one so
much to be praised for his handsome
appearance as Absalom. From the sole of
his foot to the crown of his head there was
no blemish in him. 26 And when he cut the
hair of his head (for at the end of every year

28 압살롬이 이태 동안 예루살렘에 있으되

있고 거기 보리가 있으니 가서 불을 지르
라 하니라 압살롬의 종들이 그 밭에 불을
질렀더니
31 요압이 일어나 압살롬의 집으로 가서 그
에게 이르되 어찌하여 네 종들이 내 밭에
불을 질렀느냐 하니 32 압살롬이 요압에게
대답하되 내가 일찍이 사람을 네게 보내
너를 이리로 오라고 청한 것은 내가 너를
왕께 보내 아뢰게 하기를 어찌하여 내가
그술에서 돌아오게 되었나이까 이 때까지
거기에 있는 것이 내게 나았으리이다 하려
함이로라 이제는 네가 나로 하여금 왕의
얼굴을 볼 수 있게 하라 내가 만일 죄가 있
으면 왕이 나를 죽이시는 것이 옳으니라
하는지라
33 요압이 왕께 나아가서 그에게 아뢰매 왕
이 압살롬을 부르니 그가 왕께 나아가 그
앞에서 얼굴을 땅에 대어 그에게 절하매
왕이 압살롬과 입을 맞추니라

sons, and one daughter whose name was

28 So Absalom lived two full years in

to send him to the king, but Joab would not
come to him. And he sent a second time,
but Joab would not come. 30 Then he said
to his servants, “See, Joab's field is next to
mine, and he has barley there; go and set it
on fire.” So Absalom's servants set the field
on fire.
31 Then Joab arose and went to Absalom at
his house and said to him, “Why have your
servants set my field on fire?” 32 Absalom
answered Joab, “Behold, I sent word to
you, ‘Come here, that I may send you to
the king, to ask, “Why have I come from
Geshur? It would be better for me to be
there still.” Now therefore let me go into
the presence of the king, and if there is guilt
in me, let him put me to death.’”
33 Then Joab went to the king and told him,
and he summoned Absalom. So he came
to the king and bowed himself on his face
to the ground before the king, and the king
kissed Absalom.

The Death of Lazarus
1 Now a certain man was ill,
11Lazarus of Bethany, the village of
Mary and her sister Martha. 2 It was Mary
who anointed the Lord with ointment
and wiped his feet with her hair, whose
brother Lazarus was ill. 3 So the sisters sent
to him, saying, “Lord, he whom you love is
ill.” 4 But when Jesus heard it he said, “This
illness does not lead to death. It is for the
glory of God, so that the Son of God may be
glorified through it.”
5 예수께서 본래 마르다와 그 동생과 나사
로를 사랑하시더니 6 나사로가 병들었다
함을 들으시고 그 계시던 곳에 이틀을 더
유하시고 7 그 후에 제자들에게 이르시되
유대로 다시 가자 하시니 8 제자들이 말하
되 랍비여 방금도 유대인들이 돌로 치려
하였는데 또 그리로 가시려 하나이까 9 예
수께서 대답하시되 낮이 열두 시간이 아니
냐 사람이 낮에 다니면 이 세상의 빛을 보
므로 실족하지 아니하고 10 밤에 다니면 빛
이 그 사람 안에 없는 고로 실족하느니라
11 이 말씀을 하신 후에 또 이르시되 우리
친구 나사로가 잠들었도다 그러나 내가
깨우러 가노라 12 제자들이 이르되 주여
잠들었으면 낫겠나이다 하더라 13 예수는
그의 죽음을 가리켜 말씀하신 것이나 그
들은 잠들어 쉬는 것을 가리켜 말씀하심
인 줄 생각하는지라
5 Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister
and Lazarus. 6 So, when he heard that
Lazarus was ill, he stayed two days longer
in the place where he was. 7 Then after
this he said to the disciples, “Let us go to
Judea again.” 8 The disciples said to him,
“Rabbi, the Jews were just now seeking to
stone you, and are you going there again?”
9 Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve
hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day,
he does not stumble, because he sees the
light of this world. 10 But if anyone walks in
the night, he stumbles, because the light is
not in him.”
11 After saying these things, he said to
them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep,
but I go to awaken him.” 12 The disciples
said to him, “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he
will recover.” 13 Now Jesus had spoken of
his death, but they thought that he meant
taking rest in sleep.

14 이에 예수께서 밝히 이르시되 나사로가
죽었느니라 15 내가 거기 있지 아니한 것을
너희를 위하여 기뻐하노니 이는 너희로 믿
게 하려 함이라 그러나 그에게로 가자 하
시니 16 디두모라고도 하는 도마가 다른 제
자들에게 말하되 우리도 주와 함께 죽으
러 가자 하니라
14 Then Jesus told them plainly, “Lazarus
has died, 15 and for your sake I am glad that I
was not there, so that you may believe. But
let us go to him.” 16 So Thomas, called the
Twin, said to his fellow disciples, “Let us also
go, that we may die with him.”
