obrazi kongresov<br />
Kongresno-prireditvena dejavnost v <strong><strong>Cankarjev</strong>em</strong> <strong><strong>dom</strong>u</strong> si je<br />
s svojo dolgoletno tradicijo, znanjem in kakovostno izvedbo<br />
kongresov ustvarila sloves največjega profesionalnega kongresnega<br />
organizatorja v Sloveniji. S strokovno usposobljeno<br />
ekipo zagotavljamo izvedbo in trženje kongresov po najzahtevnejših<br />
standardih v lastnih in drugih dvoranah <strong>dom</strong>a in v<br />
tujini.<br />
Zavedamo se svojih prednosti in priložnosti, ki se ponujajo.<br />
Za udeležence kongresov je Slovenija kot varna, gostoljubna<br />
in očarljiva majhna država z naravnimi in kulturnimi znamenitostmi<br />
ter urejenim in čistim okoljem nadvse zanimiva,<br />
njena geografska lega v srednjeevropskem prostoru pa ji<br />
daje še dodatno privlačnost.<br />
Vse to povečuje naše prednosti, ne smemo pa pozabiti na<br />
ljudi, ki kongresni dejavnosti dodajajo osebno noto in so<br />
obraz prireditve, jo poosebljajo. Prav ti so naš adut, na katerega<br />
lahko vedno stavimo. Potem ko je končana strma pot<br />
pridobivanja kongresa, so kot os, okoli katere se vrti in steka<br />
vse dogajanje. So odprti, prijazni, fleksibilni, požrtvovalni,<br />
zanesljivi in vedno profesionalni. Zavedajo se, da je pravočasna<br />
storitev najpomembnejša in da je enako pomembno<br />
tudi tesno, sprotno in složno sodelovanje z organizatorjem<br />
kongresa.<br />
Predvsem zaradi ljudi se partnerji vračajo k nam.<br />
Zato bomo tudi v prihodnje vlagali v ljudi, v izobraževanje,<br />
izpopolnjevanje, v razvoj in rast menedžmenta, iskanje<br />
vedno novih zamisli in znanja za prefinjene dodelave zelo<br />
kakovostnih storitev. Vrhunsko izvedbo podpiramo tudi z<br />
nenehnim posodabljanjem tehnične opremljenosti in prenavljanjem<br />
prostorov.<br />
Odločeni smo ostati najboljši profesionalni kongresni organizator,<br />

Ozrimo se v leto 1980, ko je v <strong><strong>Cankarjev</strong>em</strong> <strong><strong>dom</strong>u</strong> kot enakovredna sopotnica kulturi zaživela<br />
tudi kongresna dejavnost. Takrat je bilo to pionirsko delo, utiranje poti na novo, obetavno<br />
področje, saj pravih izkušenj <strong>dom</strong>a ni bilo. Tudi pričakovanja in zahteve naročnikov niso bili<br />
tako veliki, a kongresna ekipa <strong>Cankarjev</strong>ega <strong>dom</strong>a je bila od vsega začetka zazrta v prihodnost,<br />
k novim znanjem in priložnostim, k iskanju svežih zamisli, ostrenju posluha in občutka za<br />
naročnike ter v vsakem trenutku odprta in dojemljiva za izzive.<br />
Izkušnje in uspehi so ji vlivali samozavest<br />
in danes lahko pogumno rečemo,<br />
da je Kongresno-prireditvena dejavnost<br />
CD preizkušena in izjemno profesionalna<br />
organizatorka kongresnih in<br />
najrazličnejših drugih prireditev, ki ji<br />
organizacijo znanstvenih in strokovnih<br />
kongresov, simpozijev in seminarjev,<br />
gospodarsko-podjetniških, izobraževalno-sejemskih<br />
in najrazličnejših<br />
družabnih prireditev zaupajo številna<br />
<strong>dom</strong>ača in tuja znanstvena in strokovna<br />
združenja, podjetja, vladne in nevladne<br />

Kongresno-prireditvena dejavnost CD<br />
se ponaša z najbogatejšo tradicijo prireditvenega<br />
menedžmenta v Sloveniji.<br />

ampak se približa svojim<br />

izvedbo vsake prireditve z<br />

vsako leto izvede več kot 200 prireditev<br />
in v okviru teh več kot 1000 manjših<br />
dogodkov; gre za izjemno bero raznolikih<br />
referenčnih prireditev od mednarodnega<br />
do krajevnega pomena. Vsaka<br />
uresničena prireditev je izkušnja več,<br />
vsaka prihodnja je nova priložnost.<br />
Umetniki tehnike<br />
Tehnično osebje<br />
<strong>Cankarjev</strong>ega <strong>dom</strong>a je<br />
prekaljeno v nenehnih<br />
izzivih, saj se spoprijema<br />
tudi z enkratnimi<br />
gostovanji najzahtevnejših<br />
večmedijskih odrskih<br />
projektov najvidnejših<br />
svetovnih ustvarjalcev.<br />
Pohvale prejema od<br />
zvenečih imen, kot so zdaj<br />
že pokojni, legendarni<br />
pevec Ibrahim Ferrer<br />
(Buena Vista Social Club),<br />
sloviti gledališki režiser<br />
in vsestranski umetnik<br />
Robert Willson, koreograf<br />
Jan Fabre, igralka in pevka<br />
Jane Birkin ter mnogi<br />
drugi. Tako pridobljeno<br />
znanje in izkušnje iz<br />
umetnosti prenaša tudi<br />
na kongresno področje;<br />
na slavnostnih odprtjih in<br />
drugih slovesnostih poskrbi<br />
za potek brez vsakih<br />
zatikanj ter pričara sijoče,<br />
nepozabne prizore.
na Očesni kliniki v Ljubljani<br />
Že vrsto let sodelujemo s <strong>Cankarjev</strong>im<br />
<strong>dom</strong>om pri organiziranju <strong>dom</strong>ačih in mednarodnih strokovnih<br />
srečanj, ki večinoma potekajo v organizaciji Združenja<br />
oftalmologov Slovenije.<br />
V letu 2007 sem v sodelovanju<br />
s <strong>Cankarjev</strong>im <strong>dom</strong>om<br />
organizirala 25. srečanje<br />
Evropskega združenja za<br />
očesno, plastično in rekonstruktivno<br />
kirurgijo, ki se<br />
ga je udeležilo več kot 450<br />
udeležencev iz 37 držav z<br />
vsega sveta. Organizacija je v<br />
celoti potekala nemoteno in v<br />
prijetnem vzdušju, za kar so<br />
poskrbeli zaposleni v <strong><strong>Cankarjev</strong>em</strong><br />
<strong><strong>dom</strong>u</strong>. Vse detajle smo<br />
predebatirali skupaj in vedno<br />
poiskali najboljšo mogočo rešitev. Tudi izvedba tega tridnevnega<br />
kongresa je bila popolnoma brezhibna tako glede<br />
prostorov kot tehničnih storitev.<br />
Spremljevalni program, v katerega sta sodila sprejem na<br />
Tivolskem gradu s ponudbo <strong>dom</strong>ače kulinarike in gala večerja<br />
v Unionski dvorani z nastopom folklorne skupine, je bil<br />
odličen in je požel mnogo pohval. Kot organizatorka sem<br />
prejela veliko ustnih in pisnih pohval o srečanju, ki je bilo<br />
gotovo eno najboljših, kar jih je imel ESOPRS doslej.<br />
Tudi tiskano gradivo, ki so ga prejeli udeleženci, je bilo zelo<br />
kakovostno in prepoznavno.<br />
Čeprav se mi je zdela organizacija tako velikega srečanja na<br />
začetku zelo velik zalogaj, moram ob zaključku poudariti, da<br />
je vse potekalo izredno gladko in v profesionalno prijateljskem<br />
razpoloženju.<br />

potrditve<br />
in organizirati Slovenski knjižni<br />
Pripraviti sejem je vsakoletni dogodek, ki<br />
pomeni vrhunec založniške in knjigotrške dejavnosti v naši<br />
državi. Okoli 100 razstavljavcev in skoraj 30.000 obiskovalcev<br />
zahteva temeljit razmislek in dobro organizacijo sejma,<br />
ki se začne z arhitektovo razporeditvijo, zarisano v tloris.<br />
Kljub začetnim pomislekom o primernosti kulturnega<br />
hrama (s tremi nadstropji), kakršen je <strong>Cankarjev</strong> <strong>dom</strong>, se je<br />
Strokovno združenje knjižnih založnikov pri GZS odločilo,<br />
da Slovenski knjižni sejem postane več kot sejem, širši kulturni<br />
dogodek v vsakoletnem programu <strong>Cankarjev</strong>ega <strong>dom</strong>a.<br />
Sodelovanje z usposobljeno<br />
programsko in tehnično ekipo<br />
z znanjem in izkušnjami,<br />
hkrati pa tudi z vso tehnično<br />
podporo, prinaša najboljše<br />
rezultate, srečne in zadovoljne<br />
obiskovalce ter pozitivno odmevnost<br />
v javnosti. Celo nadstropja<br />
je mogoče pametno<br />
izkoristiti, saj jih lahko prostorsko<br />
zaokrožiš v zanimive<br />
programske celote. Redni<br />
kulturni program v sejemskih<br />
dneh pa dodatno bogati in<br />
privablja obiskovalce.<br />
Nove prostorske zmožnosti, ki jih je v zadnjih dveh letih pridobil<br />
<strong>Cankarjev</strong> <strong>dom</strong>: Drugo preddverje in Klub CD, pa nam<br />
s čudovito arhitekturo in dizajnom ter zmožnostmi premičnega<br />
postavljanja sten in preoblikovanja prostora vzbujajo<br />
željo po novem sodelovanju v smislu organiziranja literarnih<br />
večerov, izobraževanj, mednarodnih simpozijev, založniškega<br />
plesa in morda še česa.<br />

Pri organizaciji strokovnih<br />
srečanj sodelujemo<br />
s <strong>Cankarjev</strong>im <strong>dom</strong>om že od leta 1998. Maja leta<br />
2000 smo skupaj organizirali Centralni evropski kongres<br />
ortopedov v Portorožu, leta 2003 in 2005 prav tam mednarodna<br />
simpozija o poškodbah pri športu, junija 2007 pa enak<br />
simpozij na Bledu.<br />
Sodelovanje je bilo vselej izjemno uspešno, strokovna<br />
srečanja pa izvedena v zadovoljstvo nas, organizatorjev, in<br />
vseh udeležencev. Tudi v prihodnje nameravamo sodelovati<br />
s Kongresno-prireditveno dejavnostjo CD, prepričani, da bo<br />
kakovost storitev ostala na taki ravni, kot smo je vajeni.<br />

je zvestoba! Založba Kapital že pet-<br />
Zvestoba najst let organizira finančne dneve<br />
Kapital v <strong><strong>Cankarjev</strong>em</strong> <strong><strong>dom</strong>u</strong>, ki se jih je skupaj udeležilo<br />
okoli 60.000 obiskovalcev, sklenjene pa so bile tudi številne<br />
dobre in tudi trajne poslovne zveze.<br />
Ekipa Kapitala se je s <strong>Cankarjev</strong>im <strong>dom</strong>om v vseh teh letih<br />
zares dobro ujela, prilagodili smo se eden drugemu in zato<br />
se v <strong><strong>Cankarjev</strong>em</strong> <strong><strong>dom</strong>u</strong> vsako<br />
leto dva dni počutimo kot<br />
<strong>dom</strong>a, sploh sedaj, ko je prenovljeno<br />
Drugo preddverje.<br />
Kot organizatorji finančnih<br />
dni se srečujemo s problemom<br />
majhnosti Slovenije, kar<br />
še posebej velja za organizacijo<br />
ozko specializiranih<br />
dogodkov. V sosednji Avstriji<br />
je 10-krat več ponudnikov<br />
finančnih storitev, v Nemčiji<br />
100-krat več. In temu primeren<br />
je tudi obisk. Vodilni avstrijski<br />
finančni sejem vsako leto v treh dneh obišče 12.000<br />
investicij željnih obiskovalcev, v Sloveniji je obiska pol manj,<br />
glede na število prebivalcev in predvsem tradicijo investiranja<br />
pa je tudi to vse pohvale vreden dosežek.<br />

s <strong>Cankarjev</strong>im <strong>dom</strong>om se<br />
Sodelovanje je začelo pred skoraj 25<br />
leti. Zveza za tehnično kulturo Slovenije je s CD že leta 1984<br />
pripravila prvi skupni projekt Računalnica – mikroračunalniški<br />
sejem, ki je pozneje prerasel v izobraževalno-sejemsko<br />
prireditev Infos. Sodelovanje se je nadaljevalo z izvedbo<br />
drugih prireditev, in sicer: Internet v Sloveniji, Datawerhousing,<br />
Kapital, Bits & fun, Dnevi slovenskega izobraževanja,<br />
Slovenski festival vin, Teleinfos, državna srečanja mladih<br />
raziskovalcev Slovenije,<br />
Festival za tretje življenjsko<br />
obdobje, Hevreka in nenazadnje<br />
evropski kongres Eurag.<br />
Omenim naj še številne tiskovne<br />
konference, sprejeme,<br />
bankete in klubske večere.<br />
Več let zapored je ekipa CD<br />
pomagala postaviti in opremiti<br />
montažne objekte ter jih<br />
spretno povezati in neopazno<br />
združiti z matično stavbo.<br />
Leta 2007 smo v okviru Zveze<br />
za tehnično kulturo Slovenije<br />
in Zveze društev upokojencev<br />
Slovenije v CD uspešno izvedli Festival za tretje življenjsko<br />
obdobje, ki je edinstvena kombinacija razstave, konferenc,<br />
kulturnih dogodkov, izobraževanja, predstavitev in nastopov<br />
ter protokola. V dveh dneh je festival privabil skoraj 10.000<br />
obiskovalcev ter gostil številne ugledne kulturne, politične in<br />
javne osebnosti. Vsi so bili enotnega mnenja, da je prireditev<br />
odlična tudi zaradi tega, ker gostuje v tako eminentni<br />
instituciji z vrhunsko infrastrukturo in odličnimi sodelavci.<br />

Prvo veliko zdravljenje odvisnosti smo<br />
v <strong><strong>Cankarjev</strong>em</strong> <strong><strong>dom</strong>u</strong> pripravili leta 1997. Odločili smo se,<br />
da mora konferenco, ki jo organizira ustanova Odsev se sliši<br />
(The Sound of Reflection Foundation), slišati oz. začutiti<br />
vsa Ljubljana, če že ne vsa<br />
Slovenija. Tako smo na Gradu<br />
na treh odrih priredili »rave<br />
party«, da se je treslo mesto,<br />
na ploščadi pred CD je bilo<br />
veliko dogajanja, izložbe<br />
trgovin pa so seznanjale ljudi<br />
o nevarnostih uživanja drog<br />
in možnostih pomoči. Zelo<br />
profesionalno osebje CD se<br />
je čudilo takšni organizaciji<br />
konference, a z velikansko<br />
prožnostjo in pripravljenostjo<br />
nadgrajevalo naše, včasih že<br />
kar nore zamisli.<br />
Po nekaj slovenskih konferencah smo leta 2002 organizirali<br />
Mednarodno konferenco o zmanjševanju škode zaradi<br />
uživanja drog. Spet smo želeli biti opaženi in s konferenco<br />
Ženske in droge smo vstopili kar v parlament. Velika prožnost<br />
naših soorganizatorjev iz CD je navdušila udeležence,<br />
ki še danes ob konkurenci iz največjih svetovnih prestolnic
ljubljansko konferenco omenjajo kot najbolje organizirano.<br />
Verjetno smo bili ravno zato leta 2007 izbrani za izvedbo<br />
prve Svetovne konference o zdravljenju odvisnosti. Raznolike<br />
prostorske možnosti CD ob odlično pripravljenem<br />
kulturnem in družabnem delu, dobri jedači in pijači ter<br />
zanimivih turističnih ogledih so prepričale naše prijatelje<br />
in goste, da so nas nato zaprosili tudi za organizacijo velike<br />
evropske konference s področja vseh kemičnih in nekemičnih<br />
odvisnosti in ne le drog.<br />
Ob vsem tem smo se od <strong>dom</strong>ačih in tujih udeležencev veliko<br />
naučili, izmenjali izkušnje in navezali prijateljstva. Pa ne le<br />
z njimi, temveč tudi s čudovitim osebjem CD.<br />
Andrej Kastelic, dr. med., spec. psih., predstojnik<br />

m <strong>dom</strong>om sem začel<br />
S <strong>Cankarjev</strong>isodelovati še pred nastankom<br />
države Slovenije. Takrat je bila to glavna lokacijska<br />
atrakcija v Ljubljani pa tudi skoraj edina kongresna agencija.<br />
Prav osamosvojitev Slovenije, priprave nanjo in organizacija<br />
tiskovnega središča (za katero sem bil odgovoren) so še<br />
izostrile zmožnosti in sposobnosti CD za velike mednarodne<br />
dogodke te vrste, čeprav so mednarodne kongrese delali že<br />
prej.<br />
Od leta 1991 sem s CD in v<br />
njem še velikokrat sodeloval<br />
kot naročnik bodisi pri organizaciji<br />
tiskovnih središč za<br />
velike mednarodne dogodke,<br />
ki so potekali v prostorih CD,<br />
bodisi s kongresno agencijo<br />
na drugih lokacijah ter pri organizaciji<br />
državnih proslav in<br />
državnih sprejemov. Celo pri<br />
promociji Slovenije, Ljubljane<br />
in CD kot nove zanimive kongresne<br />
lokacije smo sodelovali<br />
– <strong>dom</strong>a in v tujini.<br />
Postopno preurejanje CD, ki poleg prilagajanja notranje<br />
ureditve in opreme potrebam kulturnega programa vedno<br />
bolj sledi tudi smernicam opremljenosti modernega kongresnega<br />
središča, jasnejše profiliranje in trženje storitev<br />
kongresne dejavnosti bodo gotovo vplivali na še uspešnejše<br />
pridobivanje in izvajanje mednarodnih konferenc, kongresov<br />
in drugih podobnih dogodkov.<br />
Ljudje, ki jih poznaš, s katerimi si že nekaj doživel, so tudi<br />
jamstvo za izvrstno izpeljavo mednarodnih dogodkov, ki jih<br />
bo po koncu slovenskega predsedovanja EU na dolgi rok gotovo<br />
še več in bodo tuji udeleženci v CD ali s CD prav gotovo<br />
neposredno »začutili Slovenijo«.<br />

dejavnost CD včlanjena v najuglednejša svetovna<br />

Kongresno-prireditvena dejavnost CD je članica najpomembnejše<br />
mednarodne kongresne zveze ICCA že več kot<br />
dvajset let, kar je zavidljiva doba za stroko, ki je tudi v svetu<br />
še razmeroma mlada. Nepridobitna organizacija ICCA, ustanovljena<br />
v šestdesetih letih, se ukvarja s trženjem in bazo<br />
podatkov mednarodnih prireditev. Njeni člani so vodilni ponudniki<br />
raznovrstnih storitev, tako organizacije kongresnih<br />
prireditev kot raznolikih podpornih in spremljajočih storitev.<br />

Kongresno-prireditvena dejavnost CD je članica Mednarodne<br />
zveze profesionalnih kongresnih organizatorjev IAPCO.<br />
Zveza je bila ustanovljena leta 1968, njeno poslanstvo pa je<br />
usmerjeno v izobraževanje, razvoj kongresnih standardov in<br />
medsebojno sodelovanje, ki pripomorejo k še večji strokovnosti<br />
in odličnosti kongresnih organizatorjev. Zveza združuje<br />

Zgodba in zgradba <strong>Cankarjev</strong>ega <strong>dom</strong>a sta<br />
razgibani in zanimivi. Začetek živahnega<br />
dogajanja sega v leto 1980, ko so bile v najprej<br />
dokončani, Linhartovi dvorani prve umetniške<br />
in kongresne prireditve.<br />
CaNkarjev <strong>dom</strong> – hiša za<br />
1001 NameN<br />
<strong>Cankarjev</strong> <strong>dom</strong> je bil od vsega začetka načrtovan kot kulturni<br />
in kongresni center, v katerem je mogoče uresničiti vse vrste<br />
umetniških uprizoritev ter vse želje in potrebe naročnikov<br />
oziroma soorganizatorjev kongresnih prireditev.<br />
To razgibano dejavnost <strong>Cankarjev</strong> <strong>dom</strong> odseva že navzven:<br />
silhueta stavbe se spreminja glede na zorni kot opazovalca.<br />
Notranjost je premišljeno in <strong>dom</strong>išljeno zasnovana tako po<br />
funkcionalnih kot estetskih merilih; z udobjem in prijetno<br />
gostoljubnostjo lahko na raznovrstnih prireditvah v dvoranah<br />
sprejema od 20 do 1500 udeležencev, naenkrat pa 5000<br />
obiskovalcev.<br />
S površino 36.000 kvadratnih metrov je <strong>Cankarjev</strong> <strong>dom</strong><br />
največji kulturni in kongresni center v državi. Ponaša se<br />
z izjemno akustiko, velikim in tehnično vsezmogljivim<br />
odrom največje, Gallusove dvorane, v kateri so tudi vrhunske<br />
Schukejeve orgle. Velika sprejemna dvorana in Klub CD, ki<br />
je bil temeljito prenovljen v začetku leta 2008, pa veljata za<br />
najlepši prizorišči v Sloveniji.<br />
Zgradba <strong>Cankarjev</strong>ega <strong>dom</strong>a je biser, ki s časom ne izgublja<br />
niti iskrice svojega sijaja. Zasnoval jo je prof. Edo Ravnikar,<br />
učenec slovitega mojstra arhitekture Jožeta Plečnika, za<br />
prenovitvene posege v skladu s tradicijo prvotnih zamisli pa<br />
skrbi arhitekt Andrej Kasal, član Ravnikarjeve skupine pri<br />
gradnji <strong>Cankarjev</strong>ega <strong>dom</strong>a.<br />
Vpetost v širši prostor <strong><strong>Cankarjev</strong>em</strong>u <strong><strong>dom</strong>u</strong> daje dodatne<br />
prednosti. Čeprav je v Sloveniji vse blizu, je sedež v Ljubljani,<br />
prestolnici države, kakor srčika.<br />

V Ljubljano vodijo vse poti. Je stičišče hitrih cest in železnice,<br />
osrednje slovensko Letališče Jožeta Pučnika je oddaljeno<br />
le dobrih 20 kilometrov. Lahko pridrvite, lahko priletite, in<br />
ko ste enkrat v Ljubljani, ste v <strong><strong>Cankarjev</strong>em</strong> <strong><strong>dom</strong>u</strong>, saj se<br />
nahaja v njenem neposrednem središču med predsedstvom<br />
in parlamentom. Vse je na dosegu roke.<br />
V <strong>Cankarjev</strong> <strong>dom</strong> se lahko dobesedno pripeljete z avtomobilom.<br />
Garažna hiša je streljaj proč in od tam so dvorane<br />
dostopne skozi podhod; tudi če dežuje ali sneži, ne potrebujete<br />
dežnika.<br />
Poskrbljeno je tudi za invali<strong>dom</strong> prilagojen vhod in dostop<br />
do dvoran.<br />
Od hotelov v mestu imate bodisi lep sprehod ali pa dobre<br />
povezave z mestnim avtobusom.<br />
Potem si lahko, če sta čas in volja, ogledate znamenitosti,<br />
si dovolite, da vas očara staro mestno jedro, se naužijete<br />
zelenja v Tivoliju, največjem mestnem parku, skočite po<br />
nakupih in opravkih – vse je zelo blizu.<br />
<strong>Cankarjev</strong> <strong>dom</strong> je v središču vsega in sam vam ponuja vse,<br />
kar potrebujete.<br />
Tudi kavico, prigrizek ali ogled razstave med odmori. Ali pa<br />
prepovedani užitek ob cigareti, saj je zagotovljen tudi prostor<br />
za kadilce.<br />

S svojo amfiteatrsko arhitekturo ponuja<br />

5,4 m je opremljen z avdio-vizualno<br />

Pred kratkim prenovljeno, nadvse prijetno<br />
prizorišče izobraževalnih, poslovnih in<br />
družabnih srečanj, svečanosti, zabav in razstav.<br />
Glede na število udeležencev in značaj<br />
prireditve je prostor s premičnimi stenami<br />

your heart’s desire. During breaks, one can have a cup of<br />
coffee, a snack or see an exhibition. Since a smoking area is<br />
provided for, one can also enjoy the forbidden fruit – having<br />
a cigarette.<br />
The city hotels are either within walking distance or a short<br />
bus ride away. If you feel like it, you can see the sights, allow<br />
yourself to be enchanted by the Old City, wallow in the<br />
greenery of the Tivoli Park, go on a shopping spree or run<br />
some errands – everything is within reach.<br />
It is literally possible to drive into <strong>Cankarjev</strong> <strong>dom</strong>. The<br />
multi-storey car park is only a stone’s throw away and allows<br />
direct underground access to <strong>Cankarjev</strong> <strong>dom</strong>; even if it’s<br />
raining or snowing, you will not get your feet wet. The building’s<br />
entrances and accesses to halls have been adjusted to<br />
accommodate disabled persons.<br />
All paths lead to Ljubljana. It stands at the crossroads of<br />
highways and the railroad, while the central Slovene airport<br />
Jože Pučnik lies only 20 kilometres Northway. Whether you<br />
come by car or plane, once you are in Ljubljana, you are in<br />
<strong>Cankarjev</strong> <strong>dom</strong>. Namely, it is situated in the very centre of<br />
Ljubljana, located between the Presidential Palace and the<br />
National Assembly. Here, everything is within reach.<br />

Notwithstanding the fact that nothing is remote in<br />
<strong>Cankarjev</strong> <strong>dom</strong> is an architectural gem whose splendour has<br />
not been diminished with time. It was designed by Prof. Edo<br />
Ravnikar, student of the notable master of architecture Jože<br />
Plečnik, while the renovation – executed in accordance with<br />
original plans – has been supervised by architect Andrej<br />
Kasal, member of the Ravnikar’s team.<br />
The area of 36,000 square metres has conferred on <strong>Cankarjev</strong><br />
<strong>dom</strong> the envious title of the largest cultural and congress<br />
centre of Slovenia. It boasts extraordinary acoustical properties<br />
of its halls, capacious and technically omnipotent stage<br />
of its largest hall, the Gallus Hall that also features a stateof-the-art<br />
Schuke pipe organ. The Grand Reception Hall and<br />
CD Club, which was thoroughly renovated at the beginning<br />
of 2008, are considered to be two of the most beautiful<br />
venues of Slovenia.<br />
The variegated aspect of <strong>Cankarjev</strong> <strong>dom</strong>’s activity is reflected<br />
also in its exterior: the building’s architecture changes with<br />
regard to the beholder’s viewpoint. The interior boasts an<br />
imaginative and well-conceived design meeting the criteria<br />
of expedience as well as aesthetics. Providing comfort and<br />
hospitality, CD’s halls will admit from 20 to 1500 delegates,<br />
and as many as 5000 visitors simultaneously.<br />
The beginnings of its vigorous existence go back as far as<br />
1980, when the first artistic and congress events were organised<br />
in Linhart Hall, the first hall to be completed. Since<br />
the very beginning, <strong>Cankarjev</strong> <strong>dom</strong> has been destined to<br />

The CD Congress and Events Management is also the only<br />
Slovene member of IAPCO, the International Association<br />
of Professional Congress Organisers. The Association was<br />
established in 1968 and is oriented towards education, raising<br />
congress standards and mutual cooperation, which helps<br />
to raise the professional criteria of congress organisers. The<br />
Association brings together small and larger organisations<br />
primarily engaged in the organisation of congress events.<br />

of activity that is relatively new in the world. A non-profit<br />

As an active member of various worldwide and local associations,<br />
I have realised how important are well-organized<br />
congresses not only for acquiring new knowledge and expertise<br />
but also for promotion of a country. In Slovenia, we<br />
are not yet aware of that fact. Merely the excellently qualified<br />
personnel of <strong>Cankarjev</strong> <strong>dom</strong> and some other organizations<br />
are namely not enough if there is no wider support in the<br />
society. Organization of congresses is ’congress tourism’<br />
which, besides promotion of a country, also brings positive<br />
economic impacts and represents a good long-term investment<br />
into tourism.<br />
Together with <strong>Cankarjev</strong> <strong>dom</strong> Cultural and Congress Centre,<br />
I have prepared international meetings also in Portorož and<br />
Bled which are, besides the baroque city of Ljubljana, also<br />
attractive from the tourism point of view. That is namely,<br />
besides the content of the scientific programme, one of<br />
the most important factors when scientists are deciding on<br />
participation at congresses.<br />

Following the excellent demonstration of organizational<br />
skills by <strong>Cankarjev</strong> <strong>dom</strong> and St. Bernardin, we are anticipating<br />
another record number of delegates at the 11th Congress<br />
which will also contribute to a better recognisability of<br />
Slovenia.<br />
The feedback concerning the concert was exceptional, and<br />
the Congress imbued a wealth of reminiscences in all who<br />
attended; indeed, many brought up in subsequent conversations<br />
as well as in letters and reports.<br />
Besides the rich content of the scientific programme, we -<br />
together with the Congress and Events Management of <strong>Cankarjev</strong><br />
<strong>dom</strong> and St. Bernardin Hotels - also wanted to create<br />
a pleasant experience for all the participants. The coastal<br />
location itself was charming, and the opening concert - with<br />
Zoran Predin, violinist Anja Bukovec and the blind pianist<br />
Zoran Škrinjar - in the hall right above the sea, certainly<br />
contributed to the pleasant ambiance.<br />
The outcome of the Congress<br />
was an enigma even a few<br />
months before its envisaged<br />
date. Would there be enough<br />
participants? Will Slovenia be<br />
attractive enough venue for<br />
those who come for tourism? All these fears were unfounded.<br />
Of the more than 700 delegates, 243 were established<br />
invited lecturers from all over the world, and we listened to<br />
606 contributions. The Congress program was the most<br />
extensive yet, and according to the evaluation of the programme<br />
secretariat, the best ever!<br />
One of the largest and<br />
most important<br />
in its field, as regards size and scope, the Congress<br />
of the European Association for Vision and Eye Research<br />
2007 – the 10th such meeting – took place in Portorož,<br />
Slovenia, and was organized<br />
by the Congress and Events<br />
Management Department of<br />
<strong>Cankarjev</strong> <strong>dom</strong>. As the venue<br />
changes every three years, the<br />
Congress will again take place<br />
in Slovenia in October 2008<br />

After Capri, Vienna, Delft and Paris the organization was<br />
entrusted to Ljubljana, and we succeeded in staging an event<br />
which was the largest yet. The Congress hosted 458 participants<br />
from 39 countries, and following strict recension,<br />
420 contributions from 42 countries were placed on the<br />
programme.<br />

of the 6th Congress of the Federation of European<br />
Simulation Societies, which took place in September 2007<br />
at the University of Ljubljana’s Faculty of Electrical Engineering,<br />
were the responsibility of the Federation itself and<br />
much of this burden was entrusted to <strong>Cankarjev</strong> <strong>dom</strong>. The<br />
support provided by the <strong>Cankarjev</strong> <strong>dom</strong> was most satisfactory,<br />
while the registration of participants and provision of<br />
accommodation services were carried out faultlessly, and we<br />
received no complaints. Many participants needed a visa or<br />
a letter of guarantee, and these requirements were also accomplished<br />
faultlessly thanks to <strong>Cankarjev</strong> <strong>dom</strong>. They also<br />
helped in the organization of social events and the publication<br />
of conference bulletins and a CD.<br />

Accomplishing all of this would have proved nigh on impossible<br />

The Protocol Service has organized an array of state ceremonies,<br />
events, international meetings, exhibitions and<br />
conferences in the context of the supportive hospitality of<br />
the Gallus, Linhart and the Great Reception Hall, as well as<br />
other <strong>Cankarjev</strong> <strong>dom</strong> venues. Indeed, it would be difficult<br />
for anyone to surpass the success of the Welcome to the<br />
Euro event in January 2007, one of the biggest events that<br />
independent Slovenia has ever hosted.<br />

the Symposium, which could not have achieved without the<br />
diligent efforts of the staff of <strong>Cankarjev</strong> <strong>dom</strong>.<br />
