“Hard to believe that
Buenos Aires had a
beginning. I feel it to
be as eternal as air
and water.”
~ Jorge Luis Borges,
Argentine writer,
1899-1986, The Mythical
Founding of Buenos Aires,
1929
“I grew up in this town,
my poetry was born
between the hill and the
river, it took its voice from
the rain, and like the timber,
it steeped itself in the
forests.”
~ Pablo Neruda,
Chilean writer and Nobel
Prize in Literature winner
(1971), 1904-1973
“The plains of Patagonia
are boundless...they bear
lasted through the ages,
and there appears no limit
to their duration through
future time.”
Buenos Aires
argentina
A sprawling metropolis in perpetual motion,
Buenos Aires pulsates with a passionate Latin
spirit and creative energy. Known as The Paris of
South America, a walk down the wide, elegant
boulevards lined with upscale boutiques, cafés,
plazas and quaint museums will have you
convinced you’re in one of Europe’s capitals.
For a taste of the city’s South American soul,
step into a tango hall and watch exuberant
crowds put on masterful displays of the highly
charged and deeply revered dance. A long and
fascinating history draws visitors to the Casa
Rosada, the presidential estate where the
heroic First Lady of Argentina, Eva Perón,
emboldened the working class with heartfelt
speeches from the balcony in 1951. A walk
through the Recoleta Cemetery will reveal
Evita’s final resting place amongst the nation’s
most important figures. Take a break from the
bustle of the city with a leisurely stroll through
charming neighborhoods or spend a relaxing
afternoon of people-watching at a terrace café.
Iguazú Falls
argentina
Spanning the border
between Brazil and Argentina, Iguazú Falls is
one of the most awe-inspiring sights on the
continent. Fittingly named Iguazú — meaning
“great waters” in the local tribal tongue—
this spectacular torrent is 65 feet taller than
Niagara Falls and twice as wide, causing a
thunderous roar that can be heard from miles
away. In the site’s most dramatic section, the
Devil’s Throat, 14 separate falls plummet over
a 330-foot drop. View this exquisite display of
nature’s power from a series of catwalks that
lead you directly over the cascading waters.
Town Hall and Clock Tower,
Bariloche
Bariloche
San Carlos de Bariloche
argentina
A traditional Tyrolean village with a South
American accent, San Carlos de Bariloche —
better known simply as Bariloche — will
bewitch you with its many charms. Tucked
between the towering Andes and the Patagonian
plains, it is surrounded by lush forests, glacial
lakes and rugged mountains. The view is spectacular
at any time of year. The lively town, brimming
with Swiss-style chocolate shops and fondue
restaurants, provides a refined contrast to
the scenery’s untamed allure. Drink in the
region’s history at the Patagonian Museum, or
simply enjoy the magnificent views across the
serene surface of Lake Nahuel Huapi.
The Andean Lakes
A natural treasure shared by Chile and
Argentina, the Andean Lakes District is
a wonderland that must be seen to be
believed. Immerse yourself in the beauty of
fertile valleys and glassy lakes surrounded by
low Andean hills and perfectly shaped volcanoes
frosted with snow. Indulge in a feast of
scenic splendor, from icy fjords dotted with
tiny, pristine islands to dense, ancient rainforests
boasting natural hot springs and
plunging waterfalls.
Puerto Varas
chile
Settle into lakeside perfection in the
immaculate town of Puerto Varas, situated
on the southern shore of Lake Llanquihue
with a view of Osorno Volcano’s snow-
Cruce de los Lagos
By land and by water, journey from San
Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina, to Puerto
Varas, Chile, over majestic Andean peaks
and across pristine Patagonian lakes. This
epic excursion follows the trail cut by the
first adventurers to cross the Andes
along this route in 1913. Travel in comfort
while marveling at nature’s spectacular
display of breathtaking beauty!
Santiago
chile
Jump into the heart of Chile’s cosmopolitan
capital, and be prepared for a delightful
profusion of contrasts. Santiago enjoys a natural
setting that may be without equal
among world capitals. Nestled in a fertile
valley between the Pacific and the Andes,
the city offers the best of all worlds. Stroll
along the tree-lined streets and admire
beautifully preserved colonial architecture,
lively market squares, plazas and perfectly
landscaped parks. Gleaming skyscrapers,
fashionable neighborhoods and world-class
restaurants attest to Santiago’s status as a
modern metropolis on the rise, while
churches and landmarks, such as the
impressive baroque cathedral and the Arabinfluenced
Iglesia San Francisco, evoke the
city’s colorful history. The centrally located
National Historical Museum puts it all into
perspective while tracing Chile’s history
