The Application
Process
• Only juniors in high school are eligible
to participate.
• Complete an application and submit to
your high school counselor. If you are
home-schooled or attend a private school with
no counselor please contact KIUC to make
arrangements.
• High schools will select up to 5 students to
participate in an interview process.
Counselors will submit applications to KIUC
by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2012. Check
with your counselor for school deadlines.
• Select students will be interviewed at KIUC’s
Main Conference Room the week of February
11, 2012. You will be notified of your
interview time.
• Four students will be selected to attend the
2012 Youth Tour.

Electric cooperatives are different from other utilities. Your locally owned electric
co-op gives a lot back to the community. In fact, it is a major part of its business plan.
The Electric Cooperative Youth Tour has brought high school students to Washington,
D.C., every June since the late 1950’s. KIUC sends students to Washington, D.C. because
it’s important to the long-term prosperity of our community for the leaders of tomorrow
to learn about the political process. Youth Tour participants return to Kaua‘i as stronger
leaders, with confidence that they can make a difference.
