MOC News
What is the MOC?
The Main Operations Centre
(MOC) is the hub for Gameswide
information affecting
venues, clients, partners
and stakeholders. It is where
messages are coordinated and
integrated to provide the single
source of truth. While providing
support and resource for
operational venues the MOC
also coordinates responses to
issues or incidents that affect
multiple venues and functions.
MOC Updates
MOC updates are
currently being held every two
hours (on the even hour) within
the Coordination Room (main
room) of the MOC. These start
at 8:00 and run through to
20:00.
An extended update is
also being held at 15:00 which
provides an opportunity
to update all of the MOC on
forward look items in addition
to the current issues. Closer to
Games time, extended updates
will be held at 07:00, 15:00 and
23:00.
Attendance of all operational
FAs at these updates is vital to
ensure we are effectively
working together to achieve
issue resolution and maintain
situational awareness.
That's all for now!
Games Maker
Hampden Park
Venue for London 2012 and Glasgow 2014
Kicking off the women's matches
in Glasgow, the USA have a
phenomenal Olympic record,
claiming gold in the inaugural
competition at Atlanta 1996, silver
in 2000, and gold again in both
2004 and 2008.In the men's
tournament, world and Euro 2012
champions Spain will begin their
campaign in the hope of adding to
their 1992 Gold medal victory in
Barcelona.
The stadium is ranked as one of
the greatest football stadia in the
world and it holds all major
European records for crowd
attendance. Hampden
Park recently underwent a £70m
refurbishment and is now rated
as a five-star venue by UEFA, the
governing body of European
Football.The National
stadium regularly hosts the semifinals
and finals of major cup
competitions, as well as music
concerts and other sporting events.
The stadium will host eight games
in the Olympic Football tournament,
five women’s matches and three
men’s. Olympic Football matches at
Hampden Park, Scotland's National
Stadium, take place between 25th
July and 3rd August.
After the 2012 Games, for the
Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth
Games, Hampden Park will be
transformed into an international
standard track and field facility by
implementing an innovative
building technique that uses a solid
in-fill to raise the playing surface.
As well as hosting the Athletics
competition at Glasgow 2014 –
including the start and finish of the
Marathon – Hampden Park will
provide the stage for the Closing
Ceremony.

Welcome, Bienvenue &
Fàilte to the Greatest
Time of Our Life! It's
Our Games Time at FH2
FH2 (Hilton Hotel) came to life on
Monday 16th July with Games
Time roles in full swing to prepare
our welcome to the athletes. Venue
Transport arranged a familiarisation
trip of all the Olympic Games
venues in Glasgow and you
can see them in the picture below
waiting in the lobby before being
picked up. The USA's woman's
football team are already amongst
us and Scotland greeted the team
with a most traditional Scottish
welcoming of rain, rain and more
rain during their training. Here's
hoping it dries up in time for the first
two games on the 25th July! USA V
France, Columbia v Korea DPR.
Fleet Depot Staff - All Systems Go!
Our Fleet Depot staff are pictured here on the last day of training a week
before Games Time. There was a 100% success rate with all our drivers
from TRANSPORT, SPORTS and BADMINTON FA's (Functional
Areas) all being put through their
paces. Congratulations to everyone
for passing your training. It's great
having you all on-board!
helping out coaching with her
Inspiring a Generation
We received a visit from a
Games Maker from the Rio
2016 OCOG this afternoon who
was on a tour of our Games
venues in Co-host Cities
seeking inspiration
for their Games. Thanks to
Two Years Till G.2014
Today marks exactly two years
until the Opening Ceremony of
the XX Commonwealth Games.
Two Days to Kick Off
We have helped the teams
settle in to FH2 and our other
Olympic Games venues
and with the first game of the
Women's Olympic Tournament
kicking off in only two days
time the place is bound to get
even more exciting. The USA
are taking on France
on Wednesday 25 July at 5pm;
and following this game,
Columbia play against North
Korea at 9.45pm. Let's
all keep up the great work and
assistance and demonstrate our
own Personal Best for all our
visiting athletes!
Games Maker
Wenlock Winner
Nicole Sandor, Transport Desk Team Member,
wins Olympic Mascot in FH2 Daily Draw while
Sir Chris Hoy congratulates Bradley Wiggins
Well done to Nicole for winning the
first of our Olympic Games Daily
Draws for Games Makers. She
answered the following question
correctly: Which Team GB
Cyclist won the Tour de France
yesterday? The answer is: Bradley
Wiggins. Our volunteer T3 Driver
Krisjanis Kuksa who has travelled
over from Latvia to Be Part of the
Games drew Nicole's name from
the box of entries.
Three-time Olympic gold medallist
and Cyclist Sir Chris Hoy was
named as the Team GB flagbearer
for Friday's London 2012 opening
ceremony. Hoy was the unanimous
choice of athletes in a number of
the 31 teams polled by the British
Olympic Association, and was
declared the overwhelming winner.
Hoy will lead out the team when
they become the last of the 204
competing nations to enter the
arena at the opening ceremony.
The cyclist said he couldn't think of
"a bigger honour for an Olympian
to lead out the team to a home
Olympics." He added: "It's a once in
a lifetime opportunity."
Afterwards, Hoy congratulated
Bradley Wiggins saying
he considered Bradley Wiggins'
success in the Tour de France one
of the greatest ever "standalone"
sporting achievements.
"Brad has done something that I
never thought I'd see in my lifetime,
and it's going to inspire a whole
generation of cyclists in the future,"
he said.

Day One of our
Football
Tournament
Glasgow is ready to inspire a generation...
Michael Welsh, volunteering at the Sports
Desk, explains how he hopes his experience at
London 2012 will help inspire others
Michael signed up for the
London 2012 volunteer experience
two years ago. He says "I was
approaching 50 and thought
I should do something exciting
before the midlife crisis!" He has
always been interested in sport
and he even played for Scotland
in an international match against
England. His team won 4-1. This
was back in 1978!
Michael thinks it is important for
him to give something back to Sport
and this opportunity provided the
perfect chance for him to do this.
He feels being a part of the 2012
Games is a priveledge and he
wants to make sure that all the
athletes he meets can look back to
their days here in Glasgow and feel
the warmth of Scottish hospitality.

Hampden Park is ready,
Glasgow is ready,
been looking after the athletes to
the highest of standards. Everyone
from Village Management,
Transport and Football to Medics,
Anti-Doping and Security and many
more FAs have all played their part
in reaching this moment. So there
we have it! This is it...the time we
have all been working and striving
towards. Good luck and have fun!
Apologies for North
Korean Flag Mix-Up
It was made clear today that
the video package broadcast
at Hampden Stadium yesterday
during the North Korea v
Columbia game originated from
London and that Hampden
organisers had no input. Up to
15,000 visited Hampden Park
to watch the two games being
played last night.
Prime minister, David Cameron,
said every effort will be made
to ensure such mistakes never
happen again.
2012 Opening
Ceremony is
Tonight!!!
Tonight, the world gets to witness the Opening
Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games
After an eight year wait, all eyes
will be on London tonight as an
estimated one billion people from
around the globe tune in to watch
the final countdown to the Greatest
Show on Earth! Here in Glasgow
we'll be watching from our own
Olympic Games venues or from our
homes.
Danny Boyle said it was a oncein-a-lifetime
experience for all
involved: “I’m looking forward to it, it
will never come round again, so it’s
very exciting.”
Avril Murphy, Transport Workforce
Coordinator at our Co-host city of
Manchester sent her son Paul and
his girlfriend Hookyung to the
technical rehearsal of the opening
ceremony earlier in the week and
he wrote back with the following
comment:
"It was such an epic, amazing
event! I think it will be a very
exciting introduction to the Olympic
Games. We really enjoyed it!" We'll
find out for ourselves tonight! JW

Team based at Marriott
Football Tournament
Our team of Games Makers at FH1
have been busy looking after the
national squads of Spain, Japan,
Honduras and Morocco.
Stuart Johnson has leading a team
of volunteers at the hotel including
William Ho, Ben MacDonald and
Elizabeth Naismith.
The team has been liaising with
Gary McHendry, the Deputy Venue
Transport Manager and Alison O'
Neil, the Bus Systems Team Leader
to ensure the footballers and their
officials and techical officials get to
and from our venues smoothly.
Well done to all our Games Makers
at FH1 who are doing a sterling job.
Sweets Thief!!!
Many of our volunteer workforce have
commented on the lack of Cadbury's
chocolates at FH2 during our Olympic
Games Time. After some investigating I
found the culprit... The camera never
lies as they say! Seriously though, there
has been a delay on the chocolates
getting to Glasgow and WKF have said
it would be start of August before we
see any! If any Games Maker is at the
Stadium when promotional snacks are
being handed out, please think about us
at FH2 and FH1 and bring some back!
Games Update
USA cruise through to
quarter-finals
Last night, USA secured
their progress into the quarterfinals
of the women's Olympic
Football tournament with
a regulation 3-0 win over
Colombia.
Megan Rapinoe opened
the scoring for the reigning
champions with a fine dipping
shot from outside the area after
32 minutes, but they had to wait
until 17 minutes from time to
double their advantage through
Abby Wambach.
Carli Lloyd rounded off
an excellent team move for the
third three minutes later.
At Hampden Park, France got
their campaign back on track
with a comprehensive 5-0 win
over DPR Korea.
Bruno Bini's side, who lost 4-
2 to USA on Wednesday, went
ahead a minute before the
break as Laura Georges
rose unmarked to head home
Sandrine Soubeyrand's corner.
Elodie Thomis, Marie-Laure
Delie, Wendie Renard and
Camille Catala were also on
target for the French.
Great Britain booked their place
in the last eight with a routine 3-
of those athletes feels well catered
for. Every athlete will be feeling a
huge sense of pride to be
representing their country, but it is
mixed with the pressure to perform
at their very best when they step
out onto the field of play.
Everyone in the London 2012
workforce plays a part in helping
the athletes to perform during the
most important event of their lives.
Part of my role as Chair of the
LOCOG Athletes' Committee was
to ensure that the needs of the
athletes were always considered
when planning essential services
such as transport, accommodation,
accreditation and security.
Now the Games are here I am
confident that every day we are
continuing to keep the athletes at
the heart of everything we do. On
behalf of the athletes, thank you
for your continued enthusiasm and
commitment.

has been to develop a team
that delivers a five star service to
Athletes, Officials and Spectators.
As Paul explains: "As Transport
Team, we are here to support all
Functional Areas (FAs) within
Glasgow and to ensure that
everyone is transported to their
venues efficiently and safely."
During our Games Time,
the Venue Transport service in
Glasgow has been widely praised.
Most recently by the FIFA Generale
Poetry in the Fleet
Depot! Our T3 Drivers
get creative...
Over the past three weeks our team
of T3 drivers have been "Living the
Fleet Dream". There have
been relaxing days and hard days
but overall the journey has been
amazing for everyone involved.
This is one of two poems the drivers
came up with...
They came from corners near and
far / To drive 'round glasgow in a
shiny new car / From early in the
morning till late at night / Without a
break - not even to sh*te / From
Hampden to Hilton they drove
round and round / And some of
them made it inside the ground /
With Angela's Torch, euan had
some thrills / By showing it off to
the footballing girls / From Glasgow
control and all of the team / Thank
you for helping us live the Fleet
dream / For us 2012 is over and
done / We hope you enjoyed it and
had lots of fun!!!
2012 Olympic
Games Final
Farewell
Goodbye from
Hampden Park,
Goodbye from
Glasgow!
All our hard work has paid
off and we have had a very
successful Olympic Games with
a lot of praise from both LOCOG
and members of the Olympic
Family.
Last night we received an
Email from the TROC
(Transport Operations Centre)
complimenting our
Fleet operation, especially with
regards to the tarmac pick-up
and drop off of Mr Blatter, the
FIFA President.
Posive feedback was received
from FIFA Protocol and the
Head of lympics within FIFA
who fed back that they were
very impressed with the level
of service and the seamless
operation.
Well done to all of our Fleet
and Transport team who helped
make a positive impact on FIFA.
On a final note, I would like to
say it has been my pleasure
keeping the workforce
informed at our Olympic Games
Time. Feel free to keep in
touch! Signing off for the last
time, Jamie Wallace,
France secure
semi-final spot
France progressed to the semi-finals in their
first ever appearance in the Olympic women's
Football tournament with a hard-fought 2-1 win
over Sweden at Hampden Park.
All the efforts of our London 2012
Games Makers at Hampden
Park and venues across Glasgow
have resulted in this final football
showdown. Below is the London
2012.com news report of our final
match that took place yesterday.
"Nilla Fischer had given the
Swedes the lead after 17 minutes
as Marie Hammarstrom's
corner deflected fortuitously off her
shoulder into the corner of the net,
but France were level 11 minutes
later when Laura Georges headed
home at the back post from another
corner."
"France claimed the lead thanks
to a Wendie Renard goal seven
minutes before half-time, but
Bruno Bini's side were grateful to
goalkeeper Sarah Bouhaddi as she
produced a brilliant one-handed
save from Fischer to ensure the
game did not go to extra-time."
match between Sweden and
Glasgow's London
2012 Co-Host City
Challenge for
Workforce Coordinator
When I started my post eleven
weeks ago, I remember looking
at the driver numbers and noticing
how each of the other co-host cities
already had their quota filled - and
some with waiting lists. Glasgow
only had 14 out of the required 32!
I threw down the gauntlet and took
on the challenge to make sure
Glasgow could deliver its essential
T3 driving service for this year's
Olympic Games. It was tough, but
day by day and making use of the
people around me I was able to
meet the driver requirement. This I
would say has been my own
Personal Best. The Games have
really inspired me.
Congratulations to Val for winning
Guess the Footballer competition
Val Murdoch guessed the answer to our Guess the Footballer
competition and won £20.00 worth
of Sainsbury's Gift vouchers. The
answer was of course our very own
Stewart Glover! Congratulations
also go to Stewart who won the final
draw for the mystery prize - a bottle
of Team GB Suncream! Well done
to you both and for everyone who
has been entering our Daily Draws
at check-in.
