Born in 1971 on a small grouping of islands nestled between Sweden and<br />
Finland, <strong>Lotta</strong> <strong>Jansdotter</strong>’s artistic talents are firmly rooted in the rich<br />
traditions of her Scandinavian heritage. Now based in Brooklyn, <strong>Jansdotter</strong>’s<br />
work reflects a unique blend of both her native culture and the modern<br />
sensiblities of her present surroundings.<br />
<strong>Jansdotter</strong> refashions the simple craft traditions of her childhood— including<br />
sewing and potatoe printmaking— to create nostalgic designs that blend<br />
seamlessly with the contemporary world. This creative yet practical approach,<br />
combined with <strong>Jansdotter</strong>’s use of bright colors and simple patterns,<br />
results in a style of contemporary art that’s functional while still wholly fun.<br />
Her playful approach to color and pattern is evident in her ever-expanding<br />
line of paper goods, prints, fabrics and ceramics that bring a sense of<br />
sophisticated whimsy to the everyday. <strong>Jansdotter</strong>’s work has been featured<br />
in numerous publications, including Elle Decor and Blueprint.<br />
