A moving tribute to the Australian Red
Cross, which was established just nine
days after the First World War began in
August 1914, the second issue of the Perth
Mint’s Australian Posters of WWI Series
has been unveiled!
Whether to raise funds, perform quasi-nursing

the Red Cross’ Wounded & Missing Enquiry
Bureau, female volunteers played a key role
on the homefront in the First World War.

the boys at the front, posters were crucial in

For hundreds of years, the Spanish dollar was
widely used by many countries, including
Australia, as international currency because
of its uniformity in standard and milling
characteristics. An ingenious attempt to keep
currency in the colony, the centre from Spanish
dollars were punched out to create two coins.
The project to convert the 40,000 Spanish
coins took over a year to complete. Most of the
coins were melted down when legal tender
status was withdrawn in 1829. Less than 300
Holey Dollars exist today, with most in private
collections.

Australia’s highest profile rarity, hotly pursued in any condition,
the 1930 Penny is never more desirable than when found in the
upper echelons of quality – as here. An exceptional opportunity
for one of our clients, we have this iconic coin in excessively
rare Very Fine!
The very nature of the creation of the 1930 Penny means that this
coin is seldom seen in this grade. Due to the Great Depression, the
Melbourne Mint was not required to strike many coins from 1929 to
1933, and records suggest no pennies were struck in 1930. It is now
accepted that perhaps 3,000 were struck to test 1930-dated dies.
Likely to have been released into circulation with the 1931 Penny
issue, it is logical that the 1930 Penny is almost inevitably found only
in well-worn condition. The coin before you is one of few exceptions
to this rule.
With only 1,500 coins in existence, and this example among the
top few per cent in terms of quality, this rare opportunity should be
grasped with both hands.

Australia’s first sovereigns, struck at the nation’s first official Mint, the acquisition of a Type I Sydney
Mint Sovereign in premium grade represents a mouthwatering opportunity to dine at the head table
of Australian numismatics.
The first two dates of one of the nation’s most revered types,
bearing the famous ‘wreath’ reverse motif, it is a privilege to be
able to present this numismatic icon in better than usually seen
quality. Just 502,000 examples of the Sydney Mint Sovereign
Type I were struck in 1855, with a mere 981,000 struck in
1856. With a vast majority of coins lost or destroyed for the gold
