Background
The Indian machine tool industry has an annual turnover of approximately $ 1 billion
(` 5000 Cr) in 2011-12 and is expected to increase to about $ 2.4 billion (`13000 Cr)
by 2016-17. The industry manufactures a range of both metal cutting and metal forming
machine tools, besides special purpose machines, robotics and handling systems.
Units in Bangalore and South India produce more than half of the machine tools turnover
in India.
IMTMA Machine Tool Industry Park (IMTIP)
The members of IMTMA have come together to set up a machine tool industry park, near
Tumkur, about 85 km from Bangalore to make possible the growth of the industry in the
next ten years. Strong presence of the machine tool industry in and around Bangalore
makes it an ideal location for the project.
The Park will co-locate machine tool producing companies along with the supply chain
units producing components, accessories, attachments etc.
The IMTIP is structured as a not-for-profit independent company. It will comprise
manufacturing units producing machine tools, accessories, attachments, sub-systems
and parts, and companies providing services such as fabrication, machining, heat
treatment, painting, packing, technical services etc.
Companies wishing to set up manufacturing or service providing units in the IMTIP will
join as members of the company. The land will be developed by the company with all
infrastructure and land/office space will be handed over to the individual members. They
can then construct their manufacturing facilities and commence production.
As the company is a not-for-profit company, the cost of the project will be structured
optimally to make it economical for companies to invest in setting up their facilities.
