THE LATE RASHID AZIZ T-10 MEMORIAL CUP 2013
The format of the T-10 concept was introduced in 2010, where cricket is
played in a simple manner, less complicated and confusing for cricket
lovers and new audiences to have a basic understanding of the sport.
The idea came to mind once Mr Nahed Patel and Mr Sajid Patel
witnessed the influence shown through the format of the Twenty20 cricket
along with its popularity which has taken both counties and international
levels by storm. The reason for the concept and the tournament named
after a great son, father, friend & a brother to many of us. Mr Rashid Aziz
who was 32 years old simply loved the game of cricket whether he was playing or just a spectator, due to one of life’s
unfortunate circumstances Mr Aziz passed away with the illness of Cancer in December 2009 which is why the
Memorial Cup was named after him using cricket as a vehicle to pay tribute to all who lost their battle with cancer and
hoping that one day a cure can be found and what ever monies are raised will be
donated to Cancer Research UK, hence paying the winners a low amount raising
more for charity. For us to
succeed that this tournament
is played within the spirit of the
game we decided to make a
few amendments on the rules
of the game, we created an
eleven aside 10 over game (T-
10), included three powerplay overs and the most unique four
stumps no LBW rule, we took the initiative of amending certain rules
just like a number of other sports which do so from it’s traditional
original concept to attract new audience to take part, we came
across many challenging hurdles to sell the concept to club league
cricketers, but managed to sell this particular concept to many
people due to its individual novelty. T-10 cricket is one of the most talked about tournaments in our region, its
simplicity in this version of the game has had many experience its fast, exciting and hard hitting action a pleasure to
witness. Since 2010 the popularity of the 10 over concept grew and each year attracted some of the highest quality of
grass route cricketers from all ages and levels participating and putting on great showcase performances for everyone
to admire. All T-10 tournaments have always been fitted in the programme at the end of the cricket season and have
always been an open invitation to all cricket clubs based in our region
and also outside have entered.
This year the Late Rashid Aziz T-10 Memorial Cup 2013 was the biggest
10 over tournament we had organised, we again attracted cricket clubs
from outside London to participate and support the tournament along with
clubs from mainly the East London area. We had four groups where
teams were guaranteed three matches. The top two teams from each
group qualify for the quarter finals. Our finals day was on Sunday 22nd
September 2013 which took place at the historical old Essex County
Cricket Ground, Leyton County Ground, Crawley Road, Leyton E10 6PY.
an all round performances in all departments to produce a memorable final for
all to witness. Congratulations to Prince CC for becoming the forth club to win
the Late Rashid Aziz T-10 Memorial Cup Champions 2013, great efforts and
enthusiasm shown from all the players and led by example team captain Ibrar
Mir. Many players from all the teams had talented cricketers who stood out in
one way or another, but the player who stood out the most was an impressive
15 year old ‘Misam Ali who showed great future prospects in his ability to bowl
right arm leg spin at important stages of the match along with keeping his nerve
and maintaining his confidence of bowling at menacing batsmen.
The whole aims and objectives for this Charity event is to bring the
communities together playing a major part in using Cricket as a main force which was witnessed and supported by
Head of Operations ‘Dan Feist’ of Essex County Cricket Board and the Mayor of Waltham Forest ‘Cllr Nadeem Ali’.
The National Cricket League (NCL) will always attempt in anyway to promote the sport to passionate cricket lovers
and to attract new audiences to understand and take interest in the game of cricket.
The National Cricket League would like to thank all the teams who participated in this year’s charity event and with
their contributions from entry fees, we are proud to announce that we have raised funds of £1500 for Cancer Research
UK. We would also like to thank the NCL management for their great efforts in organising and achieving our aims and
objectives by using Cricket to play a big part in raising funds for Cancer Research UK.
