Almost four years ago, Eddie Leung stumbled upon a 50-year-old building in
the Mid-levels. The ceilings were 11ft high, the entrance and hallways still had their
original sandstone finish, and he had to brave a ride up to the apartment in a rickety
elevator. He knew then that it was perfect.
“I like the lift!” he laughs. “It has so much character. It’s definitely too small though,
and [the movers] couldn’t fit my table in. In the end, they had to hoist the table up from
the balcony.”
Eddie is one half of Edga Interior, a design firm he founded with business partner
Gavin Tu, and, given his design background, he knew exactly what he wanted from
this 1,200-sq-ft apartment. To begin with, says Gavin, who created the layout of the

home, Eddie only wanted one bathroom in the apartment, but didn’t want his guests to
walk through the bedroom to get there. “The solution was to have a second door to the
bathroom that can be accessed directly from the living area, with a concealed mirror
door through to the bedroom,” Gavin says.
Eddie also has quite a treasure trove of furniture and accessories. “As you can
see, my apartment is filled with an intriguing collection of 18 th century Italian light
fixtures, a Knoll Saarinen dining set, an Arne Jacobsen classic Egg chair, 17 th century
Ayutthaya style Buddha statues, bowls from Burma and Napoleon antique furniture,”
he says proudly. Not only would his home have to showcase all these pieces, but Eddie
also wanted to make sure that the Asian and European influences wouldn’t clash.

接 通 往 客 廳 , 而 與 睡 房 相 通 的 則 為 一 道 隱 藏 式 鏡 門 。」

“The difficult part for me when designing this home was figuring out how I could
balance the Asian arts with the European furniture,” Eddie remembers. “I knew I
wanted both in the apartment, and I think they can work well together. Most of my
Asian pieces date back to the 17 th to 19 th centuries, creating a perfect dialogue with a
European interior.”
Eddie added a few of his own creative creations to this eclectic mix. One of his
favourites is the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, made entirely out of strands of crystal
beads; this stunning piece took him three weeks to make and now hangs in the entrance
of the home. Another homemade piece is the gorgeous chandelier that hangs in the living
area. “This was a mix and match design,” says the designer. “The top part was from an

完 美 。」
而 Eddie 亦 添 置 了 自 己 的 部 分 傑 作 , 其 中 一 幅 他 最 滿 意 的 作 品 是 英 女 皇 伊 莉 沙 白 二 世 的 肖 像 ,
全 以 水 晶 顆 粒 堆 砌 而 成 。 他 足 足 花 上 3 星 期 時 間 完 成 , 現 掛 在 家 中 門 口 位 置 。 另 一 樣 手 製 品 就 是 懸
在 客 廳 的 悅 目 吊 燈 。「 這 是 混 合 配 搭 的 設 計 。」 設 計 師 表 示 :「 頂 部 來 自 巴 黎 一 個 古 董 市 場 , 中 間
飾 有 水 晶 的 3 層 層 次 搜 購 自 香 港 的 摩 囉 廟 街 , 那 些 懸 掛 著 的 大 水 晶 則 取 自 另 一 盞 不 會 再 用 的 吊 燈 。」

antique market in Paris, the middle three layers with the crystal were sourced in Hong
Kong’s Mosque Street, and the giant floating crystals were taken down from another
chandelier that I don’t use anymore.”
Eddie’s bold approach to design is also evident in the home’s colour palette. Against
the living room’s pale blue walls, he incorporated strong hues and patterns that complement
rather than overwhelm each other. Here, a purple sofa, pink and blue camouflage
rug, jaguar print chair and multi-coloured artworks all coexist in harmony. “As I also
work as a textile designer, I like to play with colours,” he explains. “I love using strong
and bright colours to make this apartment lively and happy.”
It’s no surprise that this living area is Eddie’s favourite space, a place where he can
entertain in style but still relax in when alone. It’s clear that his confidence in unconventional
styling paid off: this home is colourful in more ways than one. //

品 , 一 切 都 和 諧 共 存 。「 我 很 喜 歡 配 搭 色 彩 , 故 也 充 當 紡 織 品 設 計 師 一 職 。」 他 解 釋 說 :「 我 愛 用
上 強 烈 鮮 艷 的 色 調 , 讓 家 居 充 滿 生 氣 和 喜 悅 。」
客 廳 設 計 時 尚 , 既 能 款 待 客 人 , 又 適 合 屋 主 閒 時 獨 處 放 鬆 , 難 怪 成 為 Eddie 最 喜 愛 的 空
間 。 而 他 無 懼 採 用 反 傳 統 風 格 的 信 心 和 努 力 也 沒 有 白 費 : 這 家 居 不 管 在 任 何 方 面 , 也 顯 得 份 外
繽 紛 出 眾 。 //
