Folsom, California
achieved LEED
Platinum Certification
and was named Best
Design Build Project
of the year by DBIA.
The open office area
houses over 700
employees and utilizes
an underfloor air
distribution system
that is controlled by
the occupants.

open stair system
in the historic SMUD
Headquarters Building
that D+B designed
in 1959. This stair
replaces a collection
of previously enclosed
mechanical and
circulation shafts
while maintaining
the structure’s
historic registration.

small optical shop into
VSP’s Innovation Lab in
downtown Sacramento.
This gives them the
ability to ideate in a
controlled environment

significant capital on
product development.

Though not a
direct focus of
our practice, we
often incorporate
hospitality
components in our
projects to support
cultural goals and
provide amenities.
This small coffee
shop is integrated
into the CalPERS
Lincoln Plaza building
that D+B designed
in the late 80’s.

With a focus
on creating
spaces that
facilitate collaboration
and mobility for The
Sacramento Utility
District, we designed
informal collaboration
areas, teamwork spaces,
unscheduled meeting
spaces, quiet rooms,
the addition of/and
various sizes of meeting
and conference rooms,
a new Top of the Core
Coffeehouse, dining
enhancements and
expanded event spaces.

Laser Scanning
Art Hotel Project

Dreyfuss +
Blackford has
in-house laser
scanning capability
that allows us to
quickly capture existing
conditions on short
notice. This allows us
to more completely
leverage technology
and provide enhanced
services. Here, we are
scanning a temporary art
installation in an old hotel
to record it for posterity
before demolition.

Integrating point
cloud information
in our BIM models
allows for an accuracy
far beyond basic
field measurement
and document
review. Buildings
can be rescanned
multiple times during
construction to
provide complete
as-built information
and verification.

building signage
must guide
visitors quickly and
easily where they
need to go while
seamlessly blending
with the surrounding
architecture. We offer
signage services on
all of our projects,
including complete inhouse
signage design,
as well as oversight of
a signage consultant.

Historic Structure Repurpose
CLARA Studios

Repurposing a
shuttered 1920s
school to create
large studio spaces
for the Sacramento
Ballet required a
creative approach to
both structural and
architectural elements
in the building. These
(red) tension cables
allowed us to double
the span of the existing
cast-in-place concrete
roof structure and
create spaces large
enough for rehearsals.

Additions to
historic
structures
are often difficult to
get approved unless
there is a strong
sensitivity to the
original design.
Here, we created a
compatible but distinct
addition façade and
clearly indicated the
concept through
the use of realistic
rendering techniques
that came directly
from the BIM model.

We often
work with
artists to
incorporate art as part
of the placemaking to
buildings we design.
This sculpture is
located in the main
lobby of an office
building as part of
the renovation of
the lobby.

This recent
installation of
400 glass spheres
is at the newly opened
Golden 1 Center,
the new home of the
Sacramento Kings.
We assisted the
artist in development
of renderings and
installation details.
