Design Portfolio 2017
!

WEENA LEE is a young designer from Malaysia, currently
studying MFA in Lund University. She graduated with a
degree from Kobe Design University in Japan, and one year
study program honours from Berlin Weissensee School
of Art in Germany. During her studies, she worked for the
prominent design studio, Design Soil in Japan. She already
made an international impact which she won the IKEA
Foundation of Germany with a semester of Masters studies
in Lund University. She design for YONEX, a successful
badminton brand in Singapore, South-East Asia headquater.
Her works has been exhibited in Milan, Japan, Germany and
published in Singapore.
WEENA LEE'S DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
"Great design is not only include functions, but also relates to
one's emotions, background, and behaviour. I am especially
passionate about the physical interaction between people
and products. The results of Nordic lifestyle bring us interact
more with surrounding products, which it has formed a strong
relation & feeling with them. I always want a sense of nature,
honour and playful in my design.

YONEX Training Shoe Bag makes it easy to transport athletic shoes. Materials
are made from light & durable fabrics, keeping water away so shoes
stay dry. The shoe bag is a lightweight carry bag with secure zip access,
complete with new method of graphic printing and YONEX branding.

Final Decision

SH 12
wall clock
SH12 is a wall clock, which plays on the relation of
an object and its shadow to create concealment and
exposure. It represents the subconscious nature of time,
and reveals hours only by its shade / shadow.
Shadow, is a living thing which only follows something
that is alive. Time cannot be seen. Reality is controlled
by time, and unreality emerges in shadow. The true
essence of the passing hours is masked beneath an
elastic fabric.
A functional design, combining both hard and soft
materials, mysteriously veils part of itself beneath a silky
surface to bring forth the shadow.
Feel the hours alive, and enjoy the colorful time, day by
day on the wall.

Ideation
This project aimed to address shade and shadow as a real phenomenon as well as a
metaphor. Firstly, it is to create a grey area between a shadow and an object & illustrate a
living "unknown creature" with the appearance of shadow.

BUOY LAMP
portable light
Buoy is a portable and rechargeable lamp based on the idea
that people should be free to roam as they please when
choosing a place to mingle amongst nature. The concept
derives from the idea of floating navigation buoys, which
guide sailors even during the darkest moments.
The result is a small, terrain adaptable, adjustable beacon
of light that can be carried from kiosks, food trucks, outdoor
restaurants, towards your place of choice. So you never have
to be constrained to fixed seating areas again, and are able
to enjoy nature how it’s supposed to be: naturally.

As societies grow more individualistic and technologies less comprising of others,
people feel the need for interactions among others and among nature. When
considering group gatherings in the night time at outdoor, food and drink are usually
involved in the conglomeration.

I'm a real-life Mermaid.

"One day I want to swim like a fish!"
That was Weena's dream when she was
still a child. She developed an interest in
the ocean from her young age.
And now she realize her fantasy dream
with her Mermaid tail! She plans to
develop her own Mermaid tail in the future.

Passion comes first, Dream big, Work hard, Play hard
Swim like a fish under the sea!
