Travel Photography
Alexandre Kassatly
Alexandre Kassatly has been fortunate that his Hotel experience
have permitted him to discover exciting destinations, and live in
elegant places & meet authentic people. Photography is a passion
& pleasure, and graduating from Dawson commercial photography
has added to my knowledge and experience.
Every Artist seeks to convey something in the art; it can be very
personal or emotional. I saw something that I connected with
in some unspoken way and wanted to photography it so others
could possibly enjoy what I saw. I believe that the world exists
and quietly shows some of itself everyday. It could be that my
intentions are to also express it in my images, but in a very small
part of the world.
Carla Oliveira
I’m a Brazilian who fell in love with and in Montreal. I decided to
live here 7 years ago and since then I discovered my passion for
photography, for food, for this city and for its people. I believe
photography enables me to combine all those things together giving
me the unique opportunity to unveil the beauty in simple things
Fashion – Portraiture
Charlotte Lefèvre
Young enough, I thought that the only way to catch fairies was with
a camera, that if I would be patient enough, I would end up with
photos of them, proofs of their existence.
This is what portrait photography is to me. As if every picture is part
of a dream.
Architecture
Daniel Côté
My first career was in finance; nevertheless I am doing photography
for a long time. Early I did follow current events as a photojournalist
for a College de Maisonneuve newspaper and shoot a few weddings
for friends, all before digital photography. Recently, I choose
to update and upgrade my understanding of modern digital
photography. It was and still is a great journey. Even if I am primarily
interested in architectural photography, my actual portfolio, I am
also interested in portraits, events and sport photography.
manifest them through art.
worked for a growing client list in the Montreal region, he brings a
Editorial Portraiture
Germán Moreno
Germán is a multidisciplinary creative. He graduated from Concordia
University in 2014. After university, he realizes photography is his medium of
excellence, which leads him to enroll at Dawson College, in the Commercial
Photography program. In early 2016, Germán started to photograph
exclusively on film with an old Nikon FM2 that his father gave him as a gift.
Finding new meaning in photography, he starts running a project called
O B T U R A , which consists in fashion-forward portraits of everyday people
shot exclusively on film.
His work was recently acknowledged with the 2016 RGD In-house
Design Award for a documentary he had the chance to art direct and
photograph. During his career, Germán has collaborated with retailers,
musicians, startups, and agencies including: Dead Obies,
Wayne Tennant, The Liquor Store Band, Dynamo, Dynamic Montreal,
Architecture
Joan Omalley
Joan moved to Montreal from the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region
of Quebec in 2003. Her professional work includes photography,
web development and exhibit design. Her interest in architectural
photography comes from her work in a medical museum and the
challenges dealing with material culture. She wanted to study the
history of institutions from built sources, rather than relying solely
on written texts. A close examination of the photographs sheds light
on the economic constraints of the buildings’ construction and the
aesthetic parameters of its builder and their culture.
For this exhibition, her objective was to create the impression of the
late 19th century processes using lighting styles and perspectives
that photographers used in that era. Her hope was to bring to her
work some of the richness and timelessness associated with many
older photographs. The photographs are a mixture of traditional and
contemporary architecture. In the traditional spaces the dirt and grime,
electrical wires and plaster cracks are not such a shocking contrast;
they become patina.
Portraiture – Environmental Portraiture
Katerine Guertin
Katerine has owned her photography studio for almost 8 years and
has worked as a photographer or assistant for other independent
studios.
What she likes most about this job is to work with people she does
not know at all before a project and to succeed in creating a link
with them. To succeed in making them feel comfortable enough to
have the impression of having immortalized the person in what it he
or she is of more true and simple. It’s when she presents the photos
to these clients and that she really feels good, and to be in the right
place in her life.
She is constantly looking for new projects, innovative ideas, new
challenges. So give her a call!
technical and artsy brains fight and kiss along the way and both
learn on each step.
capturing the moment and processing the digital canvas until the
result is a perfected form of personal and emotional connection
Portraiture
Maxence Bilodeau
Graduating from Dawson College in the Commercial Photography Program
at age sixty? Yes it’s possible. I’m not the first one to do it nor will I be the
last; another living proof that there is no age to become a photographer.
With this program in Commercial Photography did I enjoy taking millions
of pictures, trying to capture an emotion, using the light to create an
ambiance, spending hours with an inspiring person that accepts to be
frozen in time through my lens, spending many more hours in front of a
computer trying to repair the damage done at the moment of the image
capture!
Where will I go from now? Not a clue. I’ve been a TV reporter for thirty-five
years, a TV cameraman/editor for ten years and a TV host here and there
throughout my career. One day, I will certainly retire from my day job.
Then anything can happen, possibilities are endless. Become a full-fledged
commercial photographer or a personal photographer for the elected
few?For now, I feel the need to sit back and later consider my options.
And I’m not leaving this lively College without warmly thank each and every
member of the Commercial Photography Program for their great work and
for enduring me throughout these wonderful years.
Fashion
Melissa Guerra
After many years working in administration, I decided to follow my
true calling: Photography. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to do
what you love, not what you think you’re supposed to do. I was born
and raised in good old Montreal. I’m a lover of colors, lines, graphics
and anything dramatic. People, fashion and movies are what inspire
me the most.
Advertising – Real Estate
Moe Labade
Since 2010, Mohamed Al-Labade has been photographing
everything from concerts to corporate events, fashion, portraits,
sports and everything in between. In 2013 he was hired as a full-time
in-house photographer at one of Montreal’s hottest venues, New
City Gas, and has photographed some of the worlds most notorious
DJs, including David Guetta, Tiesto and Armin Van Buuren. That
year he was placed on MTL Blogs top concert photographers list.
Having retired from this fast-paced industry, he now pushes the
boundaries of his photography to real estate agents, interior
designers and architects; and creating conceptual advertisement
photography by putting together creative sets for brand names.
Architecture – Portraiture
Pam Duns
When I got my first camera as a teenager it was like a kind of
magical device that instantly became a part of my life, my form of
expression. I used photography as a means of self-discovery and
as a way of exploring the world around me. I never cease to be
inspired by images and the spontaneity involved in every photo
shoot. Thanks to the commercial photography program at Dawson
College, I now have a range of technical skills and an enhanced
understanding of the business side of this fascinating domain.
Portraiture – Jewelry Editorial
Soha Isaatafreshi
I couldn’t draw. I had all those images in my mind but I couldn’t draw them.
I discovered the black magic box (a Yashica) in my sister’s room. MAGIC! You
just needed to press the button to draw! I don’t know how young I was, but
naive enough to look for the picture inside the camera. So my first pictures?
exposed film!
“When I grow up, I will make a camera that shows pictures immediately
on the back”. I grew up and didn’t invent anything. I gave up drawing until
somebody invented my dream camera. Ever since, I have drawn my images
with the magic box.
Photography is magic, human beings are magic, a portrait of a human is
even more magical. The magic is that you can either capture the person’s true
self or create a new person.
“You probably CAN draw, you don’t know it”, a fine art teacher told me once.
Portraiture
Tavish Kincaid
As soon as I picked up a camera I haven’t been able to put it down;
photography has always been an integral part of my life, and now
my camera feels like an extension of me.
Subjects that drive me to shoot are portraiture, fashion and travel.
I’ve always enjoyed shooting portraiture and fashion for the same
reason that both concepts express so much diversity. Each face
and each expression given are so different that an image is never
the same. This kind of photography is one that embodies the
remarkable uniqueness and homogeneity of human kind. For each
and every one of us are different, yet we all hold something similar.
