Welcome to the Dibleys Houseplant Catalogue 

Welcome once ogoin to our cotologue in 

which I hope you will ftnd much to interest 

you. 

We hove had onother successfu/ year at 

major flower shows, goining ten Gold 

Medols ot RHS shows including our 22nd 

Chelseo Flower Show Gold. I think this 

gives on indicotion of the quolity thot our 

plonts can ochieve. 

At Chelsea Show Streptocarpus 'Sioned' 

was in the finol twenty plonts in the 

'Chelseo Plant of the Yeor' competition. A 

new occolade for us wos 'Gordening 

Which' magozine triolled'Rose Holo' and 

oworded it 'Best Buy'stotus Wíth 5 stors. 

We have some beoutiful new plonts ogoin 

this yeor. ln the Streptocorpus section 

there ore four wonderful new varieties of 

our own breeding. lncluding'Sweet Melys' 

which is our first scented one ond it is olso 

extremely floriferous. 

Another voriety bred by Fronk Dovies ofthe 

Britlsh Streptocorpus Society is'Lyndee' 

nomed for my daughter Lynne. This reolly 

stonds out ond is quite distinctive. 

We are ogoin increosing' our range of 

Saintpoulios. We hove ten new ond rare 

introductions for you. Worth o special 

mention is 'Ness Sotin Rose'

Knowing their geographical distribution helps in understanding their care, they come 

from the wooded areas in mountains, so they do not want full sunshine, but they do 

want a bright position. Too much sun burns the leaves and fades the flowers. Keep 

them in a shaded greenhouse or indoors in an East or West window. 

Overwatering, in particular regular overwatering, will cause harm to the root 

system. The first symptom of overwatering is exactly the same as 

underwatering i.e., the plant will wilt. So make sure the compost is actually dry in 

between watering. Please remember every plant is a separate individual and should be 

treated as such. 

Streptocarpus need a high potash feed and the most convenient way is to insert a 

Dibleys Streptocarpus Fertiliser Tablet each month. 

ln winter, water less often, do not feed and keep the plants in a place free from írost. 

ln March or April gradually start watering more often and commence feeding. The 

winter flowering Crystal varieties need feed throughout the year. Plants should be potted 

into a slightly larger pot each spring. 

Do not over-pot; you will gét more flower by keeping the plant on the pot 

bound side. Using half or three quarter depth pots is a good idea. (see pots on 

page 35). 

Given this treatment you will be rewarded by a continuous display of flowers from 

about May until well into winter. You will also find the flowers are good for cutting.

species and hybrids with a wide range of types and habits. We are not offering the tuberous varieties grown solely for their large flowers, but a
