“Looking back, my year at MBS
has been one of the most intense,
dynamic years of my life. While
constantly facing rigorous academic
challenges and deadlines,
one of the most inspiring aspects
was growing together as a team.
In sum, the year was extremely
demanding but totally balanced
with lots of fun, new experiences,
fresh ideas and a bunch of great
people!”
04 Your Challenge
Team Up – Develop New Perspectives
As a participant of the Mannheim MBA, you will face
a series of extraordinary challenges. You will become
a part of an elite group of high-achievers from across
the globe and you will find that being surrounded by
peers with impressive goals and ambitions is extremely
inspiring. Mannheim MBA participants have already
graduated in a range of fields with exceptional results,
and are bright and ambitious professionals from all
walks of life. On average, they have gathered 5 years
of professional work experience since obtaining their
first academic degree. Our participants are, without
exception, committed, focused, dedicated and talented.
While knowing how to lead, they are also great
team players.
Our Multi-Competence Team Concept
Diversity as Our Paradigm
Mannheim MBA participants represent the core values of the
MBA program with regard to diversity of work experience,
geographical background and a broad range of educational
experience. The statistics for an average Mannheim MBA class
One essential element of the MBA program is the team
experience. Therefore, the Multi-Competence Team
(MCT) concept is applied in all Mannheim Business
School programs. As the concept hinges on two basic
tenets for an ideal learning experience – diversity and
continuity – participants are assigned to heterogeneous
teams at the beginning of their MBA experience.
The MBA is a time of self-exploration – and the
MCT will help each participant make the most of this
opportunity! The Multi-Competence Teams stay together
for the duration of the program and work together
on their Social Sustainability as well as their
Business Master Project. This forms a major part of
the learning process, as project management, intercultural
competence and leadership skills are of utmost
importance to successfully complete the joint
project.
Beyond Hard Skills –
The Social Project
Social Responsibility at the Core
Doing your MBA at Mannheim Business School involves far more
than taking classes in Financial Accounting, Corporate Finance
or Supply Chain Management. Business ethics and social responsibility
have always been core elements of our school’s educational
concept. That is why the Social Sustainability Project is an
integral and mandatory part of the Mannheim MBA curriculum.
Innovative Projects
The project should make a positive contribution to society on
some level. However, it is up to your individual team to define
the scope of your project, as it may pursue any number of goals:
educational, promotional, humanitarian or social. The Social Project
puts your project management abilities to the test and allows
you to make a difference in the community. Past projects range
from art workshops for children treated at University Hospital
Mannheim over introductory internet classes for senior citizens
to a charity concert.
The Land of Entrepreneurs
and Inventors
Germany is not only the land of poets and philosophers, it is also
the home of a highly efficient and productive economy. With a
population of 82 million, Germany is the largest and most important
market in the European Union (EU) and one of the four largest
economies in the world. Given its high focus on exports, there
is scarcely any other country that is as intertwined with the world
economy and interested in open markets as Germany. Its share
of total world trade is approximately nine percent.
More than a thousand companies in Germany hold at least a top
three position in the world, which is more than any other comparable
economy has to offer. It is not only the major corporations
such as Siemens, Volkswagen, Daimler, Adidas, Allianz, SAP
and BASF that shape the German business environment, but also
tens of thousands of small and medium-sized internationally oriented
enterprises, which are regarded as the backbone of the German
economy.
Living in Mannheim
Mannheim is located in the center of the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan
region, which is one of Germany’s most important business
locations. An exceptional number of listed companies, e.g. BASF
and SAP, have their headquarters here. An outstanding feature of
the region is its healthy and sustainable branch mix. It is home to
global players as well as to small and medium-sized world market
leaders, hidden champions and innovative start-ups.
Since its foundation as a city, Mannheim has been a special and
cosmopolitan place to live in. It stands out among other cities
because of the planned chess board arrangement of square blocks
in the city center (“Quadrate”). And the open-minded attitude
of the citizens of Mannheim allows new arrivals to feel at home
after a very short period of time.
Situated at the confluence of the Rhine and Neckar rivers in one
of the sunniest regions of Germany, Mannheim offers numerous
possibilities to spend your leisure time: having a cup of coffee
in the courtyard of the castle, relaxing in the beautiful Luisenpark,
cycling on the banks of the Neckar river, strolling through
the busy shopping streets with their cafés and bars or attending
cultural highlights on the “culture mile” with its museums, galleries,
concert hall, opera, ballet and theatre. As Mannheim is situated
at the heart of Europe, you can easily reach cultural centers in
Germany and beyond such as Heidelberg, Frankfurt, Munich,
Paris and Strasbourg.
