Video Relay Services<br />
• CAD-ASC strongly affirms that Video Relay Services (VRS) is a<br />
basic telecommunication service to be funded through <strong>the</strong> National<br />
Contribution Fund for <strong>the</strong> provision <strong>of</strong> VRS on a national basis for<br />
both English/ASL and French/LSQ communities.<br />
• VRS will significantly re<strong>du</strong>ce <strong>the</strong> communication barrier that<br />
currently restricts <strong>the</strong> social and economic participation <strong>of</strong> <strong>Deaf</strong><br />
indivi<strong>du</strong>als to <strong>the</strong> benefit <strong>of</strong> both <strong>the</strong> <strong>Deaf</strong> indivi<strong>du</strong>als and <strong>the</strong><br />
community at large (such as hearing people)<br />
• CAV announced that VRS service will be internet-based, use <strong>of</strong><br />
mobile devices including smartphones, tablets and as well as webbased<br />
applications.<br />
