Kenya used to be a British colony; therefore English is, together with Swahili, their official language. In Kenya they speak with a different accent than for example in America or England. • Go online and listen to a guy who speaks with Kenyan-English accent. Use this link: http:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=1C_sP0hD2HY or search “Kenyan accent” on www.youtube.com. • What differences can you easily tell between your own spoken English and this Kenyan English accent? Come up with at least three differences. • Try in pairs to imitate this accent. Do you find it difficult or easy? Why? • Now try in pairs or groups of three to record your own accent. Read aloud from a book while recording, or talk about your accent like the guy on the Youtube video you watched earlier. • When you are finished watch each other’s videos and talk about characteristics in your own accent. Are there any typical features in the Danish-English accent? What are they?
