Our Fresh Bites section would not
be complete without snack culture.
Snacks are popular all over the world.
Examples include tapas in Spain, Sushi in
Japan, tacos in Mexico and bitterballen in
the Netherlands. In fact, snack culture is
so important that Unesco has identified
snacks in various parts of the world as
cultural heritage, including Neapolitan
pizza, dolmas from Azerbaijan,
couscous and Dutch kroketten.
Beauty on the outside
Cultural history is on display in museums,
but many of those museums themselves
are cultural expressions. These five
beautiful museums are well worth a
visit not just for their collections but also,
and in particular, for their architecture.
If you are interested in culinary
habits of people in various cultures,
then ‘Hungry Planet’ is an absolute
must-read. Or better, a must-see.
It is a photoreport with portraits
of families in a range of countries
showing the food they eat over a
period of a week. The result is a
beautiful collection of pictures of
families proudly displaying their
colourful dishes. It is not just the
pictures but also, in particular,
the differences that make this
such an interesting and sometimes
poignant report. The difference
between a country such as the
United States and Chad in Africa
is quite upsetting.
The book also highlights differences
between packed, processed food
and quantities of fresh fruit and
vegetables consumed in various
countries. It's a wonderful book full
of colourful pictures.

entirely in line with the cover of this edition. We like to take on the
challenge and surprise you but are only too happy with our cool

canvasses, transforming streets into open-air museums.
