Er ist praktischer Windschutz, Schattenspender und oft auch ein Rückzugsort
für ein Stündchen zum Träumen – vor allem aber Symbol für
herrliche Ferienerinnerungen an der See: die Rede ist vom Strandkorb, dessen
Erfindung dem Rheumaleiden einer Dame zu verdanken ist, die 1882
in Warnemünde an der Ostsee den ersten Strandkorb in Auftrag gab, um
die Seeluft genießen zu können. Damals ein schlankes, aufrechtes Gestell
aus Weide, das mit festem Markisenstoff ausgeschlagen war, ist der
Strandkorb heute zu einem individuell gestaltbaren Blickfang für den Garten,
Terrasse oder Balkon geworden.

1882 commissioned the first basket chair in Warnemünde on the Baltic
coast in order to be able to enjoy the sea air. In those days a slender,
upright willow frame lined with strong awning cloth, today the basket chair
has become an individually configurable eye-catcher for the garden, patio
or balcony.
