Agassiz’s great work in which he first made available to a wider audience his friend Karl Schimper’s vision of Eiszeit - an ice age.
Agassiz, who had up to 1836 firmly believed Charpentier’s claim that unstratified diluvium had been deposited by great glaciers
was false, visited Charpentier in Bex, and was converted to his view. However, Agassiz was not to follow the views of Charpentier
and his friend Venetz slavishly. At least their case for glacial action had been fully considered; what Agassiz proposed was far more
radical, and without any proper empirical evidence.
PMM
