CFPA Europe
The Confederation of Fire Protection Associations (CFPA) Europe is the formal body, governed
by statutes, which link nationally recognised fire protection organisations in 15 European
countries. Founded in 1974, CFPA Europe draws on the extensive resources of its
members in its work of raising standards of fire protection and reducing fire losses throughout
Europe.
The abolition in 1992 of trade barriers and the harmonisation of standards has made the
work of CFPA protection activity, CFPA Europe complements the work of the European
Commission, the CEN/CENELEC standards activity, such bodies as EURALARM and EU-
ROFEU, the Comité Européen des Assurances (CEA), the Comité Technique International
du Feu (CTIF) and the European Group of Fire Test Laboratories (EGOLF).
CFPA Europe is a member of the European Fire and Security Advisory Council (EFSAC).
CFPA Europe members are also members of CFPA International, wich is mad of about 30
national fire protection associations throughout the world.
CFPA Europe: Structure
The national organisations which comprise CFPA Europe all have the same broad objective
– to inform and educate people on fire safety and security in order to stop fires starting
and to prevent the consequent loss of life and destruction of property and businesses.
In pursuit of that objective CFPA Europe is organised into three broad areas of activity:
Guidelines
CFPA Europe develops guidelines and presents recommendations for particular aspects
of fire prevention & security related to problems of mutual concern. What are the principal
causes of fire and lacks of security and how can they be minimised?
Training
Fire safety & security do not always come naturally to people, so training is a vital element of
fire protection & security. CFPA Europe recognies the need for adequate training and seeks
to promote all aspects of fire protection, including security topics.
Information
All national members of CFPA Europe are involved with the supply of information. Jointly
they produce information about CFPA Europe for dissemination to their national association
audiences and to people outside those associations concerning their fire safety & security
activities. An important topic is ARSON Prevention activities.
CFPA Europe operates via a management committee which is made up of the CPFA Europe
chairman and vice-chairman, a member responsible for each of the three areas of activity –
guidelines, training and information – and the immediate past chairman.
