covering executed in the opus sectile
technique. The preserved floor mosaics
are decorated with black and white
geometrical ornaments and borders
resembling a carpet on the promenade
by the sea dating from the Augustan
period.
The area along the seashore, which
is ideal for a pleasant walk, reveals a
completely preserved drainage system
with a stone grate, whereby wastewater
drained from the building into the sea.
Traces of lead pipes were also found
for the indoor water supply. Water has
always been a source of life, but no one
like the Romans observed the cult of
water. They were surrounded with water
in baths (thermae), pools and fountains.
Water was supplied by a perfect
technique, heated by the most complex
system of wood furnaces in the socalled
praefurnium and hypocaustum.
On Vižula five cisterns were found, one
of which has been researched beside

Stuckatur und Fresken in allen Farben von
rot bis rosa, hellblau, gelb und schwarz,
oft mit Motiven von Menschen und Tieren
verziert, wie auch mit Täfelungen von feinstem,
importiertem, geglättetem, grünem,
schwarzem, gelbem und weißem Marmor,
sind Teil des Bodenbelages und der
Wände der Villa in der Technik des opus
sectile. Die erhaltenen Bodenmosaiken
sind mit schwarz-weißen geometrischen
Ornamenten und Bordüren ver zier t,
ähnlich einem Teppich an der Promenade
entlang des Meeres aus der Zeit des
Kaisers Augustus.
