Interferential Current: Mode of Action and Clinical Application
H. Dertinger, IMB
This report addresses the so-called Interferential Current (IFC), a particular type of an
amplitude-modulated alternating current, which up to now has found application in
physiotherapy only. From results with IFC-treated cells a local treatment strategy against
psoriasis is derived. In a recent clinical study conducted on patients with therapy-resistant
forms of palmar psoriasis a statistically highly significant efficacy of IFC-treatment with 90%
response rate was found. In addition to its efficiency, IFC is free of side effects and
discomfort for the patients.
■ Synthetische Phospholipide als Antitumormittel: ein neues Konzept 105
Synthetic Phospholipids: A New Approach for Tumour Therapy
A. Matzke, H. F. Krug, ITG; U. Massing, Klinik für Tumorbiologie, Freiburg
Alkylphosphocholines (APC) represent a new class of anticancer drugs. They are analogues
of phospholipids, the major components of biological membranes. Some APC are already
used for tumour therapy, but show severe side effects. In order to improve the properties of
these already existing APC, new compounds were synthesised. These new APC were
tested in cell culture systems of human tumour cells. APC are able to modify the intracellular
signal transduction pathways of tumour cells by activating receptors at the plasma
membrane, especially the CD95 death receptor. APC can induce apoptosis, the so-called
programmed cell death, within these tumour cells and thereby inhibit their growth and
propagation.
