With his piano concertos in B minor and A minor<br />
Hummel made a substantial contribution to the<br />
genre of the brilliant piano concerto and in terms of<br />
compositional technique he was on a par with the<br />
„great“ composers. The distinctive use of the horns<br />
in the Larghetto of the B minor concerto Op. 89 is<br />
one of many examples of Hummel’s outstanding gift<br />
as a creator of richly coloured instrumentation.
