AbstractOne of the trends in traffic mobility is the increased use of bicycles as means of transport. Intransport planning cyclists move more and more into the planners’ centre of attention and theanalysis of accidents involving cyclists becomes more important.This report covers one type of accident where serious or fatal injuries among cyclists are particularlycommon. Road accidents caused by collisions between right-turning lorries and cyclistsgoing straight bear a high risk for the so called weaker traffic to sustain injuries.The objective of this report was to conduct a detailed accident analysis and, based on the findings,to develop improvements to reduce these types of accidents.Particular emphasis was placed on revealing the infrastructural specifics of the hotspots that hada positive or negative effect on the event of the accident.In order to achieve this 746 road accidents in the city of Berlin that occurred between January2006 and December 2010 have been investigated. Therefore all accidents in this period of timethat are relevant for the report have been considered. The analysis has been carried out from amicroscopic and macroscopic point of view and has been supplemented by the insights gainedby site visits of a number of hotspots in the Berlin road network. The evaluation of the gathereddata has been used for the development of improvements to reduce the risk of these accidents.X
