English Language is an exciting and interesting course which gives you insight into
the process of writing and how language connects to society. English language is a
demanding course, however it gives you the freedom to explore your own topics and be
creative in addition to learning evaluative approaches to the language surrounding us.
The course includes the study of how writers and speakers use language to suit
different audiences and purposes, in the present day and in the past.
For example: You will consider how newspapers use language to represent groups
like teenagers in certain ways. We also look at how language is used electronically, in
texting and on websites, and at how people communicate with each other in speech.
Through the study of these topics you will develop your analytical skills. You will also
increase your knowledge and understanding of English vocabulary and grammar.
English Language also enables students to develop their writing skills. Students
learn to write in a variety of different forms. Both the AS and A2 Years involve
studying theories about language, such as how children learn to speak and
how and why language changes.
English Language is a great all round A level, showing a high level of
communication skills, which can lead to a huge variety of degree choices and
future careers.
