Discription:
The Dominican Republic is becoming a very attractive birding destination. Many of the endemic
Hispaniolan birds occur there, including the Palm Chat, two todies, and a trogon. So BirdLife
International declared the Dominican Republic part of a Primary Endemic Bird Area (EBA-P). Most
of the best birds can be found in the mountainous regions in the Southwest of the Country
(Jaragua and Sierra de Baoruco). BirdLife International has designated a total of 21 areas as IBAs
(Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas), i.e. as sites of global importance for the conservation of
bird life. This multilingual (en, es, fr, de, ja, cn) bird guide illustrates the entire birdlife of the
Dominican Republic in color, including the endemic, the migrant, and the pelagic bird species.
