| | amenities Recreation and Parks Recreation facilities in Orland Park continue to increase in kind and number as the community expands. Today, the village operates more than 60 well-equipped parks and facilities, which offer everything from athletic fields, playgrounds and bike trails to gymnasiums, fitness studios, basketball, tennis and bocce ball courts. Orland Park is served by its Recreation and Parks Departments, both of which are village departments like police, public works, finance, etc. Orland Park does not have a park district. The Recreation Department offers a full calendar of programs, events and outings for residents of all ages. The Parks and Grounds Department oversees all of the village’s parks. At any time during the year, village residents are involved in nearly 200 different recreational activities. The village’s recreation facilities include the Franklin E. Loebe Recreation Center, the amenity filled Sportsplex, the John Humphrey Sports Complex, the 192-acre Centennial Park, and the newest facility, the Orland Park Health and Fitness Center. This unique fitness facility is the only certified Medical Fitness Association facility in the area focusing on health benefits and preventative care along with transformational exercise. Nestled within the heart of the community, Centennial Park is the village’s largest park. Opened in 1992, the park includes a handicapped accessible playground, sand volleyball, nine baseball diamonds, nine soccer fields, the Winter Wonderland Ice Rink as well as the area’s number one public pool voted by Chicago Magazine, Centennial Park Aquatic Center, Grinding Edge Skate Park, Dogout Dog Park, and the scenic Lake Sedgewick. Named for the town’s original train depot, the 95-acre lake offers a boat ramp, fishing piers, pedal boat and kayak rentals, amphitheater, gazebo, council ring and encompassing trails. Orland Park is surrounded by more than 15,000 acres of Cook County Forest Preserves and 150 miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, nature education and wintertime cross-country skiing. Nearby are the forest and wildlife preserves of DuPage and Will Counties. The village has several golf courses within the community and a total of 21 in the immediate area. Notable Orland Park area courses include Silver Lake Country Club and Crystal Tree Golf & Country Club. A number of outstanding hospital campuses, specialty clinics, physician practices and senior health facilities have been established in the Orland Park Area, ensuring local patients have speedy access to high quality medical care when needed. In late 2016 the University of Chicago Medicine opened a new outpatient facility—the first outside of the Hyde Park campus— to bring world-class care to local residents. The Center for Advanced Care at Orland Park, located at 143rd and LaGrange Road, includes “centers of excellence,” staffed by experts in cancer treatment, comprehensive diabetes care, orthopedics, cardiology, women’s health and primary care. Located in Oak Lawn, Advocate Christ Hospital Medical Center, a 749-bed premier teaching institution is recognized for specialties such as neurosciences, oncology, pediatrics and women’s health and is home to a Level I Trauma Center. Additionally, the Center is known for the 69-bed Advocate Children’s Hospital, the area’s sole freestanding children’s hospital.
