KKV works to foster health in the broadest sense—physical, mental, emotional and spiritual—
returning to the root of the word itself: “health” comes from an Old English word meaning
“wholeness, being whole, sound or well.” A healthier Kalihi Valley, envisioned by the
community leaders who founded KKV 39 years ago, is an inclusive community in which
neighbors help to heal neighbors, and people see themselves as part of a larger whole, connected
to each other, to their culture, and to their shared land.

� HIV/AIDS, Substance Abuse and Hepatitis C Prevention. Funded by CSAP/SAMSHA,
program targets at-risk transgenders and MSM (men-who-sleep-with-men) to attend
group sessions once a week for five consecutive weeks.
� Food Bank. Open to anyone in need. Food Bank hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays
from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Bring valid I.D.
� Access-to-Recovery (ATR). Involves networking with various community service
providers who assist individuals with adjunct support services, including
spiritual/religious support, housing support, and preparing for employment.
