The original town of <strong>Sandy</strong> was settled in the 1860s to serve the mining activities in the nearby<br />
Cottonwood Canyons. By the 1890s, the mining industry left and the area became an agricultural<br />
community. On 25 September 1893, <strong>Sandy</strong> <strong>City</strong> was incorporated.<br />
Population growth in the twenty first century will be different from the explosive growth years during<br />
the 1970’s and 1980’s due to the fact that most of the large parcels of developable land are scarce.<br />
Most new growth will come through the annexation of county islands adjacent to and within the <strong>City</strong><br />
and infill of smaller parcels of land.
