From The Editor What a year! Where do I start? We’ve had tours around, across and even under (a mine tour) Australia this year. A great big thank you to everyone who made this all happen. Even in this time of financial uncertainty people still want to travel. One particular person comes to mind, Trevor Stoneley, who chose a 69 day tour option that took him right around Australia. Well done Trevor. You hold the record for the distance travelled on one Stonestreets tour by a Stonestreets Travel Club Member. The industrial sector of our company is booming with new buses and some of our coaches heading north to Gladstone and out west into the Surat Basin. But the good news for our Travel Club Members is the flow on effect. Sending coaches to industrial work means our tour coaches here in Toowoomba are being upgraded with 3 brand new Irizar coaches being delivered in the last three weeks. You’ll easily recognise them. They’re the ones with the ‘bug antenna’ rear view mirrors. I hope you all have a great Christmas and Happy New Year and look forward to catching up with some of you at our Travel Club Christmas Party at Talgai Homestead on the 14th December. A NEW ERA IN TOUR COACHES YOU’LL FALL IN LOVE WITH THEM TOO! I was sitting in my office, deep in thought, staring through the window when this pair of ‘antenna’, followed by a coach drove by my window into the depot. My immediate reaction was, “What’s this?”. As I descended the stairs I could hear a buzz of excitement from our operations department. A new coach had arrived. Like the birth of a new child, we all wandered out to welcome it into our lives and like a new child, no matter what its looks, no one wishes to offend the new parents so everyone goo’s and gar’s says how beautiful it is. My reaction however was a bit different! “Look at the ears on that thing!”. The gasp from the others was quite audible as everyone held their breath waiting for a reaction from the proud new owners. As I stepped up into the coach I began to forget about the ‘ears’ and started to admire just how bright and refreshing the interior looked. Gone are the days of dim dark interiors. I marvelled at how the grey leather seats complimented the white open roofline and luxurious carpet covers the floors. It even has doors on the overhead storage space. I sat in one of the soft leather seats to discover great leg room and excellent visibility through the huge windows. I began to realise, this new coach was special. It has a certain attraction. I was beginning to enjoy it! I wanted to travel in it to far away places and enjoy the company of fellow travellers. To escape the confines of my office and relax onboard this new coach in air conditioned comfort while touring anywhere it would take me. Reluctantly I forced myself from my dreams of travel and stepped from the coach. Turning to look back I didn’t notice the protrusions quite as much, in fact they were beginning to appeal to me. I was falling in love with this new ‘child’ in Stonestreets fleet as I’m sure anyone who travels on it will fall in love with it too.
