began as the young
woman was walking north
along Landls Avenue near

the suspect's late model
Cheverolet stopped
nearby and approached it,
thinking it belonged to a
friend.
After a brief conversation,
the suspect offered to
take her to 61st Street,
where 9he was staying
with some friends.
When the suspect drove
past 61st Street, the girl,
who is from Berwyn, Pa.,
told the driver of the
apparent mistake, so he
turned east onto 51st
Street then south onto
Pleasure Avenue as if to
head back to 61st Street.
However, in the vicinity
of 54th and Pleasure,
while the vehicle was in
, motion, Whelan allegedly
struck the girl in the head,
causing a cut that required
stitches, be<strong>for</strong>e pushing
her out of the car, Brennan
said. ' '
