95% of the time an EPD of a given accuracy (ACC) will not change outside of the range above with the
addition of new data. 95 % Possible Change Values are calculated using the following Formula.
Possible Change = EPD + 1.96 x (1- ACC) x standard deviation
North American and Total Genetic Evaluation EPD Means and Ranges
The following means and ranges for growth traits can be used to compare the 2007 North American Charolais EPDs
presented in the CCA or the AICA Sire Summaries to the current population. The means and ranges presented for
the Total Genetic Evaluation may be used to compare the 2007 Canadian carcass EPDs presented in the CCA Sire
Summary to the current population. In both cases the current population is defined as – all calves born in the last 2
years.
Changes to the Canadian Charolais Genetic Evaluation and Data Collection Programs
Currently there are substantial changes underway at the Canadian Charolais Office in Calgary, AB. Under the
direction of the CCA board of directors and breed improvement committee the staff have begun a major switch in
data collection storage and analysis systems. The performance and pedigree data is being migrated to a commercial
provider called the Agricultural Business Research Unit (ABRI). ABRI is the leader in beef breed registry software
and this movement is underway not only to improve upon our reporting and analysis procedures but also to decrease
maintenance and fixed costs. Concurrently the Breed Improvement Committee has requested that staff of RAK
Genetic Consulting Ltd. revamp the breed improvement section of the Canadian Charolais website. This site will be
accessible through the regular Canadian Charolais website as www.Charolais.com or as
http://performance.charolais.com.
