What We Do
We are a farm-based orphanage home for
destitute children of North India. There are
approximately 100 orphan children on the
mission. The kids live alongside our staff as
a big family. We do our best to live as equals
with no individuals receiving more than any
other.
The GSAM is a fully non-profit organization
that is run by the Shipway family from Australia.
Through the support of friends around
the world, the mission has already impacted
the lives of hundreds of children in over six
decades!
There is so much more to the mission other
than an orphanage; there is also a school,
farm, leper colony, vocational training center,
workshop… and many more projects that the

Our Story
In 1948 Rev Maxton D. Strong founded The
GSAM in North East India on the border of
Nepal. It is a farm home for destitute and
orphan children. The children are taken in
(for free) and are given a home, education
and training that equips them for life.
Boys are given training in computers, agriculture,
teaching, carpentry and several other
trades while the girls receive training in
computers, teaching, child-care and home
economics.
The children attend a school that is on the
mission property, where they learn both
English and Hindi. Several children are also
enrolled in government schools outside the
mission.
The mission has a large farm with a dairy,
fish tanks, vegetable gardens and many fruit
trees. The produce grown on the farm is
used to keep costs down.

Self-Supporting
One of the goals of the mission is to one day
become completely self-sufficient. Our hope
is that we will be able to complete our day to
day work without any external aid.
To achieve this we sell much of our farm produce
and hire out our tractors/vehicles on
rent. The mission school is also open to public
admissions; there are approximately 300
children currently studying who are paying
fees. These fees help in achieving our goal
of being self-sustaining.
Volunteering Options
The mission has a volunteer program operating
through its website. Volunteers are given
an opportunity to come out to India and help
out with the work going on here in various
