at the age of 17. A gunsmith and collector of
antique firearms, he operated Giff"s Gun Shop
for 20+ years in McIndoe Falls. !Relocating to
Ascutney, Gifford continued his gun business
right up until his failing health. The long duration
of his career earned him high accolades,
as he won all types of awards and was continually
approached by dealers throughout the
northeast and across the nation for insight and
appraisals. He was a lifetime member for the
NRA, an instructor, on-going member, and
past-president of Vermont Field and Stream.
! !Gifford is survived by his loving wife, Lois
(Rodak), a retired nurse from Hoosick Falls,
NY. They married in 1987. Gifford leaves behind
his son, Glenn Gifford Rossier, and his
wife, Marianne of Greenfield, IN and his
daughter, Gail Ann Rossier of St. Johnsbury,
VT. !He is also survived by two granddaughters;
Erin Marie (Rossier) Jennings and her
husband Ben, Lauren Ann (Rossier) Bodkin
and her husband Jeff, a great-grandson, Graham
Gifford Bodkin, and a “soon-to-be” greatgranddaughter,
Mia Carmen Bodkin, and his
former wife, Carmelita Ward Hutchinson, all of
Greenfield, IN. Additionally, is one brother and
his wife, Samuel and Dorothy (Larocque)
Rossier of Sutton, a sister-in-law, Geneva
(Osgood) Rossier of Greer, SC, loving nieces,
nephews, cousins, and fellow “gun friends.”!
! !He was predeceased by his parents and one
brother, Arthur Rossier of Greer, SC in 2011.
! !A celebration of Gifford"s life will be held at
2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6th, at Calvary
Baptist Church, 97 Maple Avenue, Claremont,
NH, with Reverend Stephen Cook officiating.
!Gifford"s graveside service will take place at
11:00 a. m. on Thursday, June 7th, at the historic
Rossier burial ground at Montgomery
Center Cemetery in Montgomery Center, VT.!
! !In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions

Shirley Ann Lutz, 74
Shirley Ann Lutz, 74, of 7 Heritage Drive in
Claremont, NH, died Saturday, May 26, 2012
at her apartment following a brief illness.
! !She was born in Holyoke, MA, on October
25, 1937, the daughter of Edward O. and Lena
(Hupfer) Hanlon. !She had resided in Claremont
for the past eight years and had previ-
ously lived in the Northampton, MA, area.
!Shirley had worked at the Kellogg Brush
Company and the Sanitary Laundry Company
for several years.
! She was the widow of Richard Lutz who died
in 1987 and was also pre-deceased by her
boyfriend, Ralph Ely, on May 28, 2004.
! !The surviving family includes four !brothers,
Lawrence Hanlon of Ontario, Canada, Eugene
Hanlon of Largo, FL, Edward Hanlon and his
companion, Ilona Murray of Easthampton, MA,
and William Hanlon and his wife, Chris of Bernardston,
MA; !three sisters, Phyllis Rogers of
!Northampton, MA, Mildred Towle of Newport,
NH, and Hazel Waller and her husband, Marc
of Florence, MA; also numerous nieces, nephews,
grand nieces and nephews and cousins. !
! She was pre-deceased by a brother, Ronald
Hanlon at the age of 9 in 1953.
A graveside memorial service was held Friday,
June 1, with Rev. William Imes, officiating,
in St Mary"s Cemetery in Northampton, MA.
Ann K. Lee, 75
Ann Katherine Lee, 75, of Strout Road, Unity,
NH, died Tuesday morning, May 29, 2012, at
her home, after a long illness, surrounded by
her family.
! !She was born in Woodsville, NH, on July 24,
1936 the daughter of Seni and Eva (Gerard)
Grenier and had resided in Unity for the past
45 years.
! !The family includes her long time partner of
37 years Ed Brown of Unity; six children; Ken
Lee of Lebanon, Donna Chickering of Saxtons
River, VT, Diane Lee of Lebanon, Robert Lee
of Lebanon, Scott Lee of Claremont, Percy
Lee of VA; three step-children; many grandchildren
and great grandchildren.
! !A memorial service was held at the West
Unity Methodist Church on Sunday, June 3rd,
with Rev. Clint Brake, officiating.
! !Donations can be made in her memory to
the Norris Cotton Cancer Society, One Medical
Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756.

! !Julia Eva Stearns, 91, of Ponderosa Park in
Charlestown, NH, died Monday morning April
9, 2012, at Springfield Hospital.
! !She was born in Bellows Falls, VT, on July 6,
1920, the daughter of William and Eva (Wright)
Bashaw.
! She worked for many years at Keil Lock in
Charlestown, NH.
! Julia married Clayton P. Stearns on August
31, 1940, and he died April 18, 1984.
! The family includes a daughter, Patricia
Pickul and her husband Joseph of Mesa, AZ;
four grandchildren, Deborah Osborne and her
husband Kevin of New York, NY, Donna Kamkar
and her husband Christophe of Averill
Park, NY, Robert Pickul and his wife Rebecca
of Claremont, NH, and Lori-Anne Morrison and
her husband Andrew of Keene, NH; four great
grandsons, Griffin Osborne, Eliot and Silas
Morrison, and Ashton Pickul.!! !She was preceded
in death by two brothers Ernest Bashaw
and Carl Bashaw.
! !Graveside services were held on Friday,
June 1st, in Pine Crest Cemetery.

David F. Scimemi, 62
David F. Scimemi, 62, of Brook Road,
Goshen, NH, died from a heart attack at the
New London Hospital, Monday, May 28, 2012.
! !David was born in Groton, MA on November
1, 1949, son of Frank and Louise (Carkin)
Scimemi. !He was raised and educated in Groton,
graduating from Groton High School in the
Class of 1968. !He then earned a Bachelor"s
Degree at the Berkeley College of Music in
Boston where he taught piano for a time. !He
later got into security systems and started Action
Security, which he operated for over 30
years. !He moved to the area in 1986 and on
June 20, 1987 married Darlene J. (Ayotte),
sharing almost 25 years together. He was a
member of the Sunshine Baptist Church in
Newport. He and Darlene traveled across
country four times and also through Mexico,
South America and many of the islands. David
enjoyed working on and restoring antique cars.
!He completed two frame-off restorations of
1959 Ford Hardtop Convertibles and also restored
a 1960 and a 1961 Lincoln.
! !Survivors include his wife, Darlene, of
Goshen, his parents: Frank and Louise Scimemi
of Groton, MA, step-daughter: Darcy
Shephard and her husband, Ernie, III, of Newport,
3 sisters: Kathy Blair and her husband,
Erik, of Mason, NH, Priscilla Stone and husband,
Mike, of Groton, MA, Carole Scimemi of
Bozeman, Montana, 2 grandchildren: Brittany
and Morgan Shephard and several cousins,
nieces and nephews.
