EPA lead-based paint rules and many other activities will have an<br />

impact on door companies. Brian Schoolman, of Safran Law Offices<br />

will provide a briefing on the issues that could have the greatest<br />

impact on door dealers, and he’ll offer advice on how to best<br />

approach how attendees address them.<br />

A new two-day training school has been created by the<br />

IDEA board of directors, in partnership with an industry<br />

faculty of experts in rolling steel doors, including rolling steel<br />

fire doors. The course will cover all of the content covered<br />

in two of the IDEA Technician Certification study guides –<br />

Commercial Rolling Door Systems and Rolling Steel Fire Doors<br />

– and serve as a thorough immersion in the products for<br />

technicians new to the commercial field, as well as an exam<br />

preparation course for certification candidates.<br />

The courses will run throughout the two-day educational<br />

agenda at the <strong>IDA</strong>Expo, and will close on Thursday with<br />

optional examinations for all technicians who are registered<br />

for either or both of the certification programs. IDEA is<br />

introducing a special new bundled program to enable<br />

technicians to earn both of these certifications at a reduced<br />

fee, and by making testing conveniently available at the<br />

close of the two-day school.<br />

for college, and having been saddled with the dubious high school<br />

honor of “Least Likely to Succeed,” Steve Rizzo didn’t give himself much of a<br />

Golf Tournament<br />

The <strong>IDA</strong>Expo Golf Tournament is a significant fundraiser for the <strong>IDA</strong><br />

Scholarship Foundation. Not only will the event provide fun for all<br />

the participants, it will also benefit students as they expand their<br />

educational horizons via <strong>IDA</strong> Scholarships.<br />

The <strong>IDA</strong>Expo Golf Tournament will be conducted at the Gaylord<br />

Springs Golf Links in Nashville, Tennessee. Designed by Larry<br />

Nelson, a PGA and U.S. Open Champion, the course is carved<br />

from the banks of the Cumberland River and is a links style<br />

layout. The holes are bordered by limestone bluffs and wetlands.<br />

If you haven’t participated in the <strong>IDA</strong>Expo Golf Tournament,<br />

this is an excellent time to do so. In the fall of 2012, the <strong>IDA</strong><br />

Scholarship Foundation provided 26 people within the industry<br />

with scholarships totaling $39,000! So, not only is the event<br />

Attendees and Exhibitors Survey<br />

Following the 2012 <strong>IDA</strong>Expo, a survey was taken of both attendees and<br />

exhibitors. Here are some of the key responses that were revealed:<br />

• 81% of the attendees were business owners<br />

• 14% of the attendees were business managers<br />

• Attendees stated that the opportunity to compare products is the second<br />

highest reason for coming to the <strong>IDA</strong>Expo<br />

• Attendees rated the <strong>IDA</strong>Expo as the most effective way of getting new<br />

industry information<br />

• Exhibitors rated the highest reason to exhibit is to promote corporate image to<br />

existing customers and user community<br />

• Exhibitors stated that they generate qualified sales leads<br />

• Exhibitors developed interest in their products and services by exhibiting at<br />

the <strong>IDA</strong>Expo<br />
