Memphis Medical Society
The mission of The Memphis Medical Society (MMS) is to unite the physicians of
Memphis and Shelby County into an organization to promote the highest quality of
medical practice and the health of our citizens. The MMS is your voice in medical and
community affairs. Benefits of membership include:
POLITICAL ACTION – The Society lobbies for physician and patient rights, hosts
legislative receptions and maintains a strong liaison with the Shelby County
legislators.
PROFESSIONAL SERVICES – A number of services are offered at a discount
including financial planning and temporary medical staff placement. The Society
provides physician referrals and a physician-patient grievance mediation program.
MULTI-MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS – Members stay informed through print and
electronic publications including the bi-weekly Medical Society News Bulletin, Medical
Society Quarterly, an annual pictorial membership directory and on-line interactive
forums and bulletin boards via www.MDmemphis.org.
COMMUNITY AND SOCIAL INVOLVEMENT – The Society promotes public health
initiatives and hosts a number of events throughout the year including community
health fairs, open board meetings in area hospitals, a medical student reception and
an annual meeting.
The primary objective of the Tennessee Medical Association (TMA) is to improve
the health of the residents of Tennessee and to ensure that the reputation of member
physicians remains one of excellence. Benefits of TMA membership include powerful
legislative representation through TMA’s legislative committee and staff lobbyists;
policy forums for physicians and medical students; subscriptions to the Journal of the
Tennessee Medical Association; professional and educational assistance programs;
and personal and practice benefits including group insurance plans and centralized
credentialing services.
The American Medical Association (AMA) speaks for all physicians. The AMA is the
only medical organization giving all medical societies, all physicians and their patients
national representation in Congress, the courts and federal agencies. Benefits of
membership include a subscription to JAMA (Journal of the American Medical
Association); access to professional development publications, workshops, and the
AMA reference libraries; member discounts on CME opportunities; and personal
financial services through the AMA Insurance Agency, AMA Investment Advisers, Inc.,
and a home mortgage program.
All biographical information printed in the 2012 directory
was submitted prior to January 1, 2012.
If you are a new member and joined after January 1, 2012,
you will be included in the 2013 edition.
