Development
and Peace
As Lent begins this week,
our annual Share Lent campaign in support of Development
and Peace begins. The theme for this year’s
Share Lent campaign is “Human Dignity.” Everyone,
regardless of where they are born deserve to be
treated with dignity. The solidarity calendar inserted in
today’s bulletin provides suggestions on how to
achieve this for our brothers and sisters in the Global
south during Lent.
HEARING THE CALL
Isaiah's prophetic call is mysterious:
God's smoky and glorious
presence in the sanctuary, with
the seraphim crying out as we
do in the eucharistic prayer,
"Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of
power and might, heaven and
earth are full of your glory." Peter,
James and John were called
from much more mundane circumstances:
hauling in fish.
We are called from where we
are: "Follow the Lord, and proclaim his risen presence."
Like Paul, we are called to receive this summons and live
our lives in response to it.

The Holy Season of Lent
This Wednesday (February 13) is Ash Wednesday, and we
enter into the spirit of Lent in the company of our Catechumens
and Candidates from the R.C.I.A. and the R.C.I.C.
who are preparing for reception of the sacraments of Christian
Initiation at Easter. It is a time of purification and
enlightenment for them, and us as well, as we strive to see
the Lord more clearly through prayer and reflection and to
follow him more clearly in the light of his word.
Ash Wednesday Mass in the morning will be at 9:15
a.m. (Notre Dame School children will join us). Also, there
is an evening Mass at 7:00 p.m.
Our school children will participate in liturgies (at their
schools) with the distribution of ashes as listed: St. Paul
High School 9:00 a.m. / Mary Ward -- 10:30 a.m. / St.
Gabriel Lalemant 11:00 a.m. / Cardinal Newman - 12:30 &
1:30 p.m. / St. Vincent de Paul -- 1:00 p.m.
Each Friday during Lent we will accompany Christ on the
Way of the Cross, and Mass beginning at 7:00 p.m.
May this Holy Season be a time of grace for all of us.

ACTORS NEEDED: Once again we will be putting
on the Passion of Christ Play, to be held at Club
Italia, on March 24. We are in need of actors to
join us, particularly young men ages grade 8 and up,
speaking and non speaking rolls, but everyone of all
ages are welcome to join us. Practices are on Sunday
evenings for only 1.5 hours. For more information,

St. Catharines Right to Life Dinner: to be held Saturday,
February 23, 6:30 p.m. at John-Michael’s Conference
Centre, Hwy #58 in Thorold, L2V 3Y7. Guest
speaker will be Teresa Harnett. As Executive Director
of Hamilton Birthright for 24 years and founder
of Project Rachel in Hamilton, Teresa has counseled
over 1,000 women facing unplanned pregnancy. Teresa
will share insights to help us understand why women
resort to abortion, and what we can do to help them

SPAGHETTI DINNER: St. Thomas More Parish
(Dorchester Road) invites all Our Lady of the
Scapular Parishioners to their 33rd Annual All-You-
Can-Eat Spaghetti Supper on Sunday, February
17th from noon until 4:30 p.m. Tickets (Adults
$8.00 / children 2– 10 years of age $5.00) are
available through St. Thomas More parish office or
at the door. Proceeds from the dinner will be designated
for Development and Peace.
WELLS OF HOPE will hold their 6th annual Taste
and See Fundraiser on Thursday, February 21 from
7—10 p.m. at Casablanca Winery Inn in Grimsby for
a fun night of wine and food tasting plus a silent
auction and raffle. If you have attended before,
you know how exciting the evening is while helping
Wells of Hope raise funds. If this is your first
time attending, you will hear about Wells of Hope
accomplishments as well as our goals for this coming
season while you enjoy the tastings and participate
in the activities of the evening. For tickets ($50

PANCAKE & SAUSAGE SUPPER

Tickets: $5 each -- available from any member of the
Holy Name Society, or from the parish office (8:30
a.m. - 4:30 p.m.)
The meal includes pancakes,
sausages, dessert, and a beverage.
Catholic Women’s League
Our Annual Diocesan Retreat will take place during
the season of Lent on March 6 th and/or
March 9 th at Mount Carmel Spiritual Centre.
Guest Speaker Carol Mullins from Quiet Whispers
Ministry will present her own unique style and original
music on our theme “Spiritual Poverty”. Cost is
$42.00 per person. CWL members of our parish pay only

AUTOMATED DONATION
FUND TRANSFER
Beginning in March of this year, we will be offering
automated fund transfer as a way for parishioners to
contribute to the parish.
Those interested in utilizing this way of donating are
asked to contact the parish office. The necessary
paper work can then be issued and completed to begin
this process.
