DRUG TREATMENT<br />
Pronounced hypersalivation may be attenuated using anticholinergic drugs [Miller 1999] or by local<br />
injection <strong>of</strong> botulinum toxin A into the salivary glands as has been demonstrated in patients with ALS and<br />
Parkinson disease [Ellies 2002; Giess 2000; Ondo 2004]. Botulinum toxin A applied to the superior<br />
oesophageal sphincter may reduce dysphagia due to an elevated sphincter tone [Chiu 2004].<br />
