Martha Rose received the Educator of the
Year Award from the Learning Disabilities
Association of Iowa at its 2011 annual
conference in Des Moines. Rose is a teacher at
Franklin Elementary School in Council Bluffs
and was recognized for her success working
with children with learning disabilities in her
general education classroom.

Dr. Robert Hilker, Vero Beach, Fla., died Aug.
29, 2011. Hilker served on the Morningside
College Board of Directors from 1971 to 1980.
He and his wife, Mary, made the naming gift
for the Hilker Campus Mall. The college
presented him with the Distinguished Alumni
Award in 1977, the Order of Morningside in
1980 and an honorary doctorate in 2004. The
college’s board of directors awarded him the
honor of director emeritus in 2007.
