YUVA BHARATI DECEMBER <strong>2006</strong><br />
Shri Bhanudasji, Susri Rekha Davey and Susri<br />
Aparna Palkar and many well-wishers from<br />
Asom, Maharashtra and Rajasthan attended<br />
the function.<br />
<strong>Vivekananda</strong> <strong>Kendra</strong> Vidyalaya,<br />
Dibrugarh, Asom completed twenty-five<br />
years of its useful service to the children of the<br />
city. A school, which started in a small tworoomed<br />
house with only a few students, has<br />
now 1200 students and 50 teaching and nonteaching<br />
members of staff. A series of<br />
programmes like Ganapati Homa, Seminar, arts<br />
and science exhibition, debate, Krida Mahotsav<br />
etc. were conducted to mark the occasion.<br />
Decennial Programme of <strong>Vivekananda</strong><br />
<strong>Kendra</strong> Institute of Culture:<br />
On its completion of ten eventful years, VKIC<br />
organized at its premises a Decennial<br />
Celebration programme from 29 to 31 January.<br />
The occasion was used to ponder over the<br />
objectives of this Institute of bringing forth the<br />
unique attributes of the Northeast Indian<br />
Culture and the journey of ten years.<br />
On the occasion, Shri Narayan Chandra<br />
Goswami, Satradhikar of Sri Sri Natun<br />
Kamlabari Satra, Majuli, inaugurated a series<br />
of panel discussions on - Responses to the<br />
challenges faced by the culture of Northeast<br />
India, Cultural commonalities amongst the<br />
communities of Northeast India and<br />
Development through culture. Besides <strong>Kendra</strong><br />
& VKIC office bearers, the galaxy of<br />
participants included Maj. Gen. (Retd) Vinod<br />
Saighal, Shri S. Gurumurthy, noted columnist,<br />
Prof. B.B. Kumar, Editor, Astha <strong>Bharati</strong>, New<br />
Delhi. Prof. Parag Dasgupta, Guwahati, Shri<br />
Shantikam Hazarika, Director, Assam Institute<br />
of Management, Shri B.B. Jamatiya, President<br />
N.E. India Janjati Faith & Cultural Protection<br />
Forum, Shri Natwarbhai Thakkar, Founder of<br />
Nagaland Gandhi Ashram and many others.<br />
On 31 January – the foundation day of VKIC<br />
- the eighth VKIC Samman <strong>2006</strong> for<br />
outstanding contribution in socio-cultural was<br />
conferred upon Smt. Nirupama Hagjer, the<br />
noted Dimasa social worker from North<br />
Cachar Hills District, Assam. Shri Rong Bong<br />
Terong, reputed litterateur from Karbi Anglong,<br />
the chief guest, while presenting the award to<br />
Smt Nirupama Hagjer, referred to the recent<br />
clashes between the Karbi and the Dimasa,<br />
said:<br />
“Baideo is a Dimasa and I am a Karbi.<br />
How can there be quarrel between these<br />
two tribal brothers and sisters? Here, today<br />
these two tribes have been united.<br />
<strong>Vivekananda</strong> <strong>Kendra</strong> Institute of Culture,<br />
on the occasion of its Decennial<br />
Celebrations, has made these two<br />
communities to unite. That is why the<br />
significance of this day is overwhelming.<br />
Let this Institute bring peace to our hills<br />
also”.<br />
Shri Terong presented Smt Hagjer one of his<br />
novels “Kranti Kalor Ashru” written about her<br />
father. This book had been out of print for over<br />
20 years and now he had brought a fresh copy<br />
from the printer just to present it to Smt Hagjer<br />
on this memorable occasion.<br />
Shri P. Parameswaranji, President, addressing<br />
the gathering, said VKIC must work to study,<br />
disseminate and re-establish the unifying threads<br />
