Web version A CASED SET OF 12 19TH CENTURY SILVER AND IVORY OYSTER FORKS Circa 1875 Length of fork: 5¾ inches / 14.75 cm A fine boxed set of 12 French sterling silver and ivory handled oyster forks made by the fine quality French maker Henin Freres, the sterling silver tines, which all curl up, are in 950 purity silver whilst the ivory handles are carved in a fluted design. Inside the case it is marked Fabrique d’orfevrerie, Joaillerie, Masion Laigniez, Ernest Prost, 68 Quai des Orfevres, Paris. SIR WILLIAM REID DICK 1879 – 1961 British Height: 13 inches / 33 cm Sling Boy or The Catapult A fabulously modelled bronze figure of a young boy pulling the string of his catapult standing on an oval naturalistic base. The bronze with perfect original mottled brown patination and very finely finished tactile surface detail, signed W Reid Dick. Excellent original condition. Born in Glasgow on January 13, 1879, he died in London on October 1, 1961. He studied at the Glasgow School of Art until 1907 and then attended the City and Guilds School, Kensington. Exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1912 and became President of the Royal Society of British Sculptors in 1933 - 1938. A member of the Royal Fine Arts Committee and the Board of Trustees of the Tate Gallery. He was knighted in 1935 and became King's sculptor from 1938 to 1952 and Queen's sculptor thereafter. He lived and worked in London for many years. He produced a large number of monuments and memorials including the equestrian statue of Lady Godiva, Coventry and the statue of Franklin Roosevelt in Grosvenor Square.
